Just hours ago Sony announced their acquisition of Media Molecule, the England based developers of LittleBigPlanet. Fans of the franchise can trust that it will forever be PlayStation exclusive. With LittleBigPlanet having sold millions of copies, and winning over 90 awards, Sony has obviously made an excellent decision in purchasing Media Molecule. While they've only developed one game as a company, it's clear that they have a bright future.

Media Molecule will be incorporated into SCE Worldwide Studios, and entity that watches over the majority of Sony's mostly independant development teams. Worldwide Studios includes teams like Naughty Dog, Team ICO, and all of Sony's other huge developers. We can count on Media Molecule having all the freedom they need to continue creating amazing games.

Here's a quote about the acquisition from Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE Worldwide Studios:

“Since they burst onto the gaming scene, Media Molecule have proved to be a truly exciting and innovative studio, who have proved their world-class credentials with the creation of the incredible LittleBigPlanet,” ... “SCE WWS is all about creating ambitious, innovative and ground breaking games, traits that Media Molecule clearly have. To bring them into our family proves our dedication to creating fantastic new experiences that we believe will cement our position as industry leaders.”

With LittleBigPlanet PSP having been released last fall, we're left to wonder what Media Molecule currently has in development. Perhaps what they're working on persuaded Sony into buying the company. Either that or all the money that Media Molecule made for them. I can't wait to see what's coming up next.

Excited for Media Molecule, Ranters? Or is it disappointing that their games won't be going multi-console?
