Medal of Honor PC Open Beta From October 4-7

medal of honor xbox 360 beta delayed

PC gamers will have an opportunity to try out the multiplayer for EA's upcoming shooter Medal of Honor for a small period of time, starting October 4th and ending at 11:59 PST, October 7th. In addition to giving players a preview of the gameplay, EA h0pes to address some of those issues regarding playing as Taliban forces in multiplayer.

Players will be able to engage each other in firefights on the maps 'Kunar Base' and 'Shahikot Mountains' in the 'Combat Mission' and 'Sector Control' game types. 'Combat Mission' will find players in "objective based game mode for online multiplayer where Coalition forces must clear five consecutive objectives while the insurgent forces must stop them from progressing."

The aptly named 'Sector Control' game type will be very familiar to players who found themselves playing a lot of 'Domination' in Modern Warfare 2.

"Sector Control is a domination type game mode where players fight to secure and hold objective points, contributing to the final score of the match.

Regarding the controversy surrounding inclusion of Taliban forces in multiplayer, EA Label President Frank Gibeau had this to say:

"We also hope that by offering the Multiplayer Open Beta, we can clear up any misunderstanding about the patriotism and respect that are the foundation of this game. The Medal of Honor franchise has always shown extraordinary reverence for American and Allied soldiers--this game is no exception."

You can find the instructions to download the PC beta on Medal of Honor's official site.

Gamers can be impressed by multiplayer that has been developed by DICE Studios (makers of the Battlefield and Battlefield: Bad Company series). However, the amalgamation of many shooters we're familiar with combined into one game does bring a bit of hesitance to me personally.

The concept doesn't sound bad at all, but I'm still waiting to see what really sets Medal of Honor apart from the other online military-based FPS games out there. One could already argue with the camp and humor that surrounds the Bad Company series and the slight arcade shooter feel of Modern Warfare 2 that Medal of Honor could be successful in combining a highly realistic military experience with a shooter.

Medal of Honor brings you closer to the battlefield than you would have dreamed of on October 12, 2010 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
