Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond has a great deal more hype than the typical virtual reality game. It's the long-awaited return of the Medal of Honor franchise, and it's being developed by Respawn Entertainment, a studio that has consistently put out high-quality work. With Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond releasing later this month, a new gameplay trailer has dropped that showcases what FPS fans can expect from its multiplayer mode.

The Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond multiplayer trailer shows off a wide variety of maps and weapons that players will have at their disposal in multiplayer. This weaponry will come in handy in the various game modes, with the first one showcased being Mad Bomber. In Mad Bomber, one team attempts to set and detonate bombs, while the other team works to diffuse them. It seems similar to Search and Destroy from the Call of Duty games.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond's multiplayer modes also include Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, plus Domination, all mainstays of modern FPS games. There will be some unique modes as well, like the aforementioned Mad Bomber and Blast Radius. Blast Radius is a twist on King of the Hill with a focus on explosive weapons like rocket launchers. It looks like the action will be generally fast-paced, so there may be a learning curve as fans get used to the unique VR controls.

Based on the trailer, it definitely seems as though Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond's multiplayer will appeal to old-school FPS fans, and it should also give VR enthusiasts a high-quality online multiplayer experience. However, the game will have much more than just multiplayer. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond also features a campaign mode, as well as short World War 2 documentary films that players can watch. The campaign mode should go a long way in teaching Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond players the controls and get them ready for online multiplayer battles. All together, it seems as though the game will have much more content than is typical of most virtual reality titles.

Between its wealth of content and the return of the original Medal of Honor directorMedal of Honor: Above and Beyond may be a surprise hit to close out the year. VR fans will be able to find out for themselves later this month.
