Medal of Honor Sells 1.5 Million Units in First Five Days

Now that Medal of Honor has released to some mixed reviews I am sure many of you gamers are wondering how the game has performed in its first few days of release. Electronic Arts has now confirmed that in its first five days of release Medal of Honor moved 1.5 Million units equating to $100 Million. Not a bad chunk of change for a game that was released soon after Halo: Reach.

While Medal of Honor hasn’t been able to steal away as many gamers from Reach’s behemoth of a fan base, the multiplayer none the less has a healthy set of gamers online at any given time. EA even announced that they would be releasing a set of new maps and a new multiplayer mode as a thank you to any who purchase the game.

Leading up to its release, Medal of Honor was receiving a ton of negative press. First, they chose to include the Taliban as the opposing force in the game’s multiplayer. Then, veterans and military installations around the country began to boycott the game for this poor development decision. Finally, in order to please the masses, the Taliban was dropped in favor for the traditiona 'Opposing Force' title.

It wasn’t exactly the best of situations to be in going into for a reboot of a once popular franchise. Once gamers were able to get their hands on the game they found a lot to enjoy, as indicated by the numbers, with many citing the multiplayer as the strongest element of the Tier 1 gameplay. I do agree that the single player is a bit weak and the multiplayer feels a bit like a Call of Duty knock off, but if you are looking for a more realistic shooter to get your online fix before Black Ops, Medal of Honor should suit you well.

Any of you that are playing Medal of Honor enjoying your experience? Do you prefer the single player or the multiplayer?

Medal of Honor is out now for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
