[Update: MWO Open Beta has been delayed at least a week – for details and incoming game updates, click here.]

Haven’t played MechWarrior in over a decade? Eager to try out a combat game that doesn’t involve fast-moving infantry with AK-74s? Next week you’ll finally get your chance with MechWarrior Online.

Veteran PC gamers rejoice! The long-awaited reboot of the MechWarrior franchise is nearly here and to see what all the fuss is about, you’ll be able to step into a BattleMech next week and see what Piranha Games has been working on for the last few years.

Here at Game Rant we’ve been playing MechWarrior Online for a few weeks and we can safely say that if you’re a fan of the MechWarrior series, you’ll love what MWO has to offer (and aims to add in the future). Read our extensive MechWarrior Online closed beta preview for more!

The MechWarrior Online open beta officially begins October 16th where we expect new content and features to begin rolling out. There are currently nine mechs and four maps in the game, but another seven mechs or so have already been revealed (with many more on the way). We also know a new map (the biggest yet) is in the works along with at least one new game mode.

Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games:

“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of the fans over the course of our closed beta period. The amazing fans and the high quality feedback given to our team have helped us craft MechWarrior Online into a true MechWarrior gameplay experience. We’re more than excited to open up the game and look forward to continuing to expand the InnerSphere with our loyal fans.”

If you know you’ll be playing MWO for the long-haul or if you’re already in the beta and want to become a Founder, do so quick! The three founder’s packages will not be available for purchase after 11.59pm PST, Sunday Oct 14th. The game received its latest update yesterday with laid the foundation for a few new upcoming features along with some tweaks and bug fixes. Read the full changelog on page 2.

Lastly, if you’re psyched about MechWarrior Online, tomorrow at 2PM PDT, Piranha Games Lead Designer Paul Inouye will be hosting an AMAA (Ask Me Almost Anything) about the game on Reddit.
