Groot is easily one of the most popular MCU characters, even though he, unlike other superheroes, never got his solo movie, let alone a series of movies. Groot became even more prominent in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 (2017). Thanks to this movie, many fans fell in love with Baby Groot and wished to see more of him.

Marvel and Disney Plus have granted their wish by producing a series, I Am Groot, of short episodes focused on Baby Groot and his adventures. With each story so different, the audience gets a unique glimpse into Baby Groot's life. Of course, not all episodes have the same quality, some of them stand out more than the others.

5 Groot's First Steps

I Am Groot Groot's First Steps

The last time the fans saw Groot in the first Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) movie, he was still in his pot. By the time the second movie rolled around, Baby Groot was already freely moving around which suggested a fair amount of time passed between the two movies. In the meantime, Groot learned to walk and fight. This episode bridges the gap to a certain degree and shows exactly what its title promised - Baby Groot's first steps. Because Baby Groot has a short temperament, he learns how to walk when he gets angry and accidentally breaks his pot.

At first, he struggles with it, but Baby Groot soon discovers that he has powers that can help him. The episode doesn't offer that many surprising moments but still has the power to make the audience laugh as Baby Groot discovers more of the world around him. What's missing is an interaction with somebody else as Baby Groot is all alone in the pilot episode, and in the movies, some of his funniest moments happen when he's talking with other people.

4 Groot's Pursuit

I Am Groot Groot's Pursuit

In one episode, Groot functions as an intruder but in this one, he's looking for an intruder who penetrated the ship. The episode surprises by how quickly it manages to switch its mood. It starts as a horror story when Baby Groot is looking for the intruder in a darkened ship... and it ends with an unexpected battle that even Star-Lord would be proud of, considering how he defeated Ronan in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

The good news is that the audience gets to learn even more about Groot, for example, what type of pajamas he likes to wear at night. It might not seem like a big deal, but it's small details like these that make the character feel even more fleshed out. The episode also proves that Baby Groot is smarter than others and gives him credit for it as he reads a book in it and also finds a clever way how to trick the intruder.

3 Groot Takes A Bath

I Am Groot Groot takes a bath

The episode's title speaks for itself. While he's walking through a forest, Baby Groot comes across a good place where he can take a bath. The bath has unexpected consequences, but Groot is enjoying it anyway until he has to deal with an enemy who's laughing at him. The creators' imagination allows the audience to see different variations of Groot, so he gets several make-overs in the episode. It once again proves that Groot doesn't like it when people are laughing at him as he quickly comes up with suitable revenge.

Overall, the episode is one of the most imaginative in the series, and it will some people remind of Tom and Jerry in which two opposing forces also battled, with one emerging victorious in the end. What's more, the episode shows even more of Groot's powers, more specifically what his body can do under the right circumstances.

2 The Little Guy

I am Groot The Little Guy

In the MCU movies, Groot is usually the little guy and everybody's looking down on him. This episode shows what happens when the situation changes and Groot encounters blue aliens who are much smaller than him. Even though Groot has good intentions, he only makes things worse when dealing with the aliens.

The episode shows Baby Groot differently, as a giant, not a little guy, and it's interesting for the fans to see him from a new perspective. His new alien friends don't get as much space as they would have deserved, but their brave fight against the intruder makes it obvious they're just as heroic as Groot himself. The episode initially seems to be much darker in tone than others but luckily, thanks to the surprising finale, everything ends well for both Baby Groot and the tiny aliens.

1 Magnum Opus

I Am Groot Magnum Opus

The final episode of the series is also the best because it includes the Guardians of the Galaxy, and it has a feel-good atmosphere, just like the movies. This time, Baby Groot decides to draw a portrait of his family, the Guardians, but art takes sacrifices and Groot does a lot of damage on his artistic journey.

It's fun to see what Groot will come up next and the amusement factor rises when Baby Groot's closest friend makes an appearance. The episode wouldn't be out of place in the movies as well, and it would fit right in with the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie if only the story focused more on Baby Groot. The episode once again gives even more details about Baby Groot and shows what he likes to do in his free time other than dancing.
