Marvel's Eternals adds a whole new team into the MCU. The Eternals adds tons of new story, lore, and possibilities into the MCU by introducing a group of heroes that could rival even the Avengers in strength. As with any adaptation, though, the film has a few differences from its source material. In the comics, all Eternals share powers like levitation, super-strength, speed, etc., though their aptness varies from hero to hero. In the MCU, each Eternal has their own individual power.

The Eternals have wildly varying abilities and powers that are all unique to those already introduced in the MCU. To match their story with that of the MCU, some details of the Eternals comics were changed. The comic counterparts of the Eternals' heroes differ in many places, from powers to relationships, and some changes are more drastic than others.

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

10 Ajak

MCU Eternals Ajak Comic and Movie

Ajak received some of the biggest changes in her adaptation to the big screen. In the MCU, Ajak is the fearless leader of the Eternals. Her abilities to heal the wounds of the other Eternals members and communicate with the Celestial Arishem make her an invaluable part of the team.

Perhaps the biggest and most obvious change is this character's gender: in the comics, Ajak is male. Ajak is also not a part of the Eternals team as it is known in the film; instead, he is a member of the Polar Eternals, an entirely different Eternals team that works on Earth.

9 Kingo

MCU Eternals Kingo Comic and Movie

The MCU's Kingo is very different from his comic book counterpart. In the MCU, Kingo is a Bollywood actor in India, where he has posed as a dynasty of famous actors for generations. His powers allow him to conjure and shoot cosmic energy from his hands, which is exceptionally useful in battle.

In the comics, on the other hand, Kingo is a talented swordsman and samurai residing in Japan. Swords are Kingo's primary form of combat, and are frequently associated with the hero. Some similarities do exist though, as both the MCU and comic versions of Kingo are famous actors.

8 Makkari

MCU Eternals Makkari Comic and Movie

Makkari in the MCU appears to be not only the fastest hero introduced to date, but is also the MCU's first deaf hero. Makkari in the MCU is a valuable member of the Eternals, and is shown to have a romantic spark with Druig in the film.

Like Ajak, Makkari is a man in the original comics. He is known for his speed, but also harnesses many other abilities that come naturally to the Eternals. The comics did not feature Makkari as a deaf hero either.

7 Sprite

MCU Eternals Sprite Comic and Movie

In the MCU, Sprite is an Eternal who has the form of a young girl. A major character feature is her attraction to Ikaris, which causes her to ultimately choose to side with him in the movie's end fight.

In the comics, Sprite is a male character known for his mischievous antics. Sprite's powers are similar in both the MCU and comics, though he lacks any attraction to other Eternals, especially Ikaris. Both characters sport similar costumes and general appearance.

6 Phastos

MCU Eternals Phastos Comic and Movie

Phastos' MCU character isn't too far off from the comic version. In the MCU, he has the power of invention. He is wildly smart and can invent almost anything, making him a useful addition to any team. He also grapples with his involvement in some of humanity's more deadly inventions during the film.

In the comics, not much is known about Phastos' personal life, leaving plenty of room for interpretation. The possibility of him being an LGBTQ+ hero still stands, but the MCU's addition of Phastos' husband and child are new to the character.

5 Ikaris

MCU Eternals Ikaris Comic and Movie

In the MCU, Ikaris is one of the strongest Eternals, with the ability to fly and shoot beams of cosmic energy from his eyes. He is Ajak's right-hand man for much of the history of the Eternals, and a shoe-in for Eternal Prime until Sersi takes that title upon Ajak's passing. Ikaris is immensely loyal to Arishem, the Eternals' Celestial creator, during the climax of the film.

The comics' version of Ikaris does eventually become the Eternal Prime, leading the Eternals in their adventures. One of the biggest differences between the MCU version and comic version of Ikaris is his devotion to the human race. Ikaris comes to humanity's aid in the comics, whereas his MCU counterpart betrayed his fellow Eternals and humanity to fulfill Arishem's plan.

4 Druig

MCU Eternals Druig Comic and Movie

Druig's character in the MCU isn't much different from his comic book self. His exceptional power of mind control in the MCU causes conflict when he realizes how much he could help humanity, ending conflict and struggle on a mass scale. This causes him to depart the Eternals during their argument in Tenochtitlan. Druig's romantic chemistry with Mekkari is also unique to his big-screen character.

Druig in the comics has a mischievous personality, similar to that of Sprite. He has even been the antagonist in some comics, demonstrating this split from the Eternals.

3 Thena

MCU Eternals Thena Comic and Movie

In the MCU, Thena is a deadly warrior with the ability to conjure any weapon she chooses. She is able to take on most any foe with her top-tier fighting ability. In the film, Thena has Mahd Wy'ry, a type of memory illness that causes her to lash out at her fellow Eternals in a fit of rage whenever she has episodes.

In the comics, Thena's deadly fighting skills and ability to conjure weapons are present. However, Thena notably has a romantic relationship with a Deviant that is missing from the film. Specifically, her relationship is with Deviant leader Kro, who she fights toward the end of the film.

2 Gilgamesh

MCU Eternals Gilgamesh Comic and Movie

In the MCU, Gilgamesh has exceptional strength. His powers are similar to the ones he possesses in the comics. In the film, Gilgamesh cares for Thena after her first Mahd Wy'ry episode and the group disbands.

The comic version of Gilgamesh is very similar to the MCU's. While the origin of all Eternals are altered slightly in the MCU, Gilgamesh's background is especially different. In the comics, Gilgamesh is known as "The Forgotten One" and wanders the earth looking for adventure, until Sprite convinces him to remember his past and rejoin the other heroes. Gilgamesh's strength in the comics is also emphasized, with his strength being on par with that of Thor and the Hulk.

1 Sersi

MCU Eternals Sersi Comic and Movie

Sersi is the most unchanged Eternal from the comics to her film adaptation. While her role within the Eternals differs, her powers and personality are largely the same. In the MCU, Sersi has an on-again-off-again relationship with Ikaris, and a newfound relationship with Dane Whitman.

Her comic counterpart possesses similar powers, though her relationships are not exactly the same. While she does eventually meet Dane Whitman and pursue a relationship with him, the on-again-off-again relationship with her fellow Eternal took place between her and Mekkari, who was male in the comics.

Eternals was released in theaters on November 5th, 2021.
