McDonald's is unveiling an all new, limited edition sandwich. While the majority of the chain's offering tend to be beef or chicken-based, its latest offering is quite an unorthodox one - Spam and Oreos.

The worldwide fast food chain has been experimenting with its marketing and menu, especially in Asia. McDonald's recently pretended to launch a new smartphone in China, when it was really about a new chicken sandwich. This latest one's contents, however, are an entirely different story.

As reported by IGN, McDonald's China is set to debut the new burger on December 21. The fast food chain's website states that the Spam-Oreo burger will be limited to 400,000, and is only on sale for one day. The sandwich retails for 13.14 yen ($2). The promotional images show two thick slices of the canned pork, topped with a pile of crushed Oreos and a white sauce that is possibly mayo on a sesame seed bun. McDonald's is no stranger to offering strange and unusual menu options, as can be proven by a Japanese streamer's hilarious reaction to a recent NSFW McDonald's Japan item.

Interestingly, the promo images that can be found feature the Spam trademark, but the Oreo logo is nowhere to be seen. This has led some to speculate that a similar chocolate cookie will find its way onto the sandwich. While the salty-sweet combo is definitely an unusual one, the chain has actually done something similar before. McDonald's Japan previously offered the McChoco Potato, which were french fries drizzled with chocolate.

McDonald's experimentation has also seemingly expanded into the world of gaming. In addition to partnering with the developer of Cookie Jam for a recent promotion, the golden arches are also offering players QR clothing codes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This could be seen as part of a larger trend in recent years that is seeing fast food chains try to better align themselves with internet and gaming culture.

The fast food chain's recent menu addition, while very questionable, has undoubtedly created internet buzz. Unfortunately, the Spam and Oreo burger is only available in China, and just for the day at that. Although, it's questionable how many people would be interested in trying such an odd sandwich, McDonald's isn't the only chain announcing unexpected combos. Another burger restaurant chain recently announced a partnership with popular Nintendo character Kirby, although the offerings featuring the pink puffball look a lot more palatable.
