The creative team behind the Danganronpa video game series is at it again with a brand-new video game called Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. The new game was announced during the recent Nintendo Direct on September 13, where a new trailer showing off the game was featured in the lineup of announcements.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is a dark fantasy, mystery game that is being co-developed by Spike Chunsoft and Too Kyo Games, with the former also publishing it. The game follows new characters in a new setting for players to experience. Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is set in a city of unending rain, which is described as a "corporate-controlled metropolis" with many unsolved cases that are investigated by Master Detectives with their own unique powers who come from all around the world.

The game was originally called Enigma Archives: Rain Code, but it was eventually renamed to the current title. The new trailer covers the basics of the game's premise while showcasing the core gameplay elements that will be featured. Master Detective Archives: Rain Code has players take on the role of Yuma, an amnesiac detective-in-training who investigates cases with a jovial spirit that's haunting him called Shinigami. Together, the duo investigate various cases throughout the perpetually raining city.

In the game, players will be able to explore fully 3D environments of the city with Yuma and Shinigami. The setting for the Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is inspired by Tim Burton's work, which is to help distinguish it from the Danganronpa series. Players will be able to investigate clues, gather evidence, and hear testimonies while conducting their investigations in the game. When players are ready, Shinigami will open a portal to a mysterious supernatural realm called the Mystery Labyrinth.

According to the trailer, the Mystery Labyrinth ties the crime scene they're investigating to the truth. The video provides a brief glimpse into the gameplay elements that the Mystery Labyrinth adds to the game. Once Yuma and Shinigami are in the Labyrinth, the mysteries surrounding the case they're working on materialize into actual obstacles and traps. Overcoming these obstacles will allow players to get closer to the truth, but the danger doesn't stop there.

Enemies called Mystery Phantoms will appear and do what they can to thwart Yuma's progress in each case. Players will need to avoid their attacks of falsehoods and contradictions and cut their way to the truth. Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is currently scheduled to release sometime in Spring 2023 for the Nintendo Switch, and players can wishlist the game now on the Nintendo eShop.
