While the mod community typically is taken to task with finding clever ways to improve a game's user interface or all around functionality, there are a select few who use PC mods to improve the look of a game. It's something that we've seen in everything from Grand Theft Auto IV to Skyrim, and now it's making the jump to Mass Effect.

Though Mass Effect, for all of its console hindrances, isn't a bad looking game, the high res texture pack created by JeanLuc761 makes the game look down right stunning. On the surface — just seeing the images in thumbnail version — the mod doesn't look that impressive, it's only when they are blown up to epic dimensions that the detail truly stands out. Just try and look Miranda without confusing her with Yvonne Stahovski.

To get down to the nitty gritty details regarding JeanLuc761's mod make sure to head over to the BioWare forums where he posts download details along with optimum settings for running the mod. But to get just a tiny taste of what is in store for those who do download the mod, check out some of the screenshots below:

And for those console gamers who are feeling left out, it's not all bad especially since the release of Mass Effect 3, the highly anticipated conclusion to the Commander Shepard trilogy, is right around the corner. The graphics on the game certainly wont look as stunning as ME 1 and 2 running this mod, but we expect them to have improved significantly. Just by looking at the trailers it's easy to see that animations have been advanced significantly, something that would be much harder to do with a mod.

So, for those who are looking to check out the Mass Effect high-resolution texture pack mod, you can download that here. But for the rest of us it's all about preparing for Mass Effect 3, whilst drooling over these screenshots.

Have you had a chance to check out this high res texture pack for Mass Effect 1 and 2? Don't you wish developers could include textures like these in title updates?

Mass Effect 3 releases March 6, 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
