Legion is introduced in the second Mass Effect game, and he quickly becomes one of the best tech-savvy companions in the game. In combat, he's useful because of his decent powers and strong sniper skills. However, fans' love for the character doesn't come from his abilities on the battlefield, as it is more because of his personality.

The Geth unit is like no other character in the series. Being a machine means he not only talks differently to others, but he also provides a unique perspective on things. And despite only having limited screentime during the second and third games, Legion delivers some wonderful lines. Here are the synthetic's best quotes.

10 "There Was A Hole."

Mass Effect 2 Legion First Appearance

One of the first things players notice about Legion – other than he's a talking Geth – is that he's wearing a piece of N7 armor.

When Shepard asks him about it later, the Geth unit reveals that he found it while tracking the Commander. And he attached it to his armor because he had a hole that needed repairing. His simple "There was a hole" response to Shepard's query is hilariously blunt yet understandable.

9 "We Did Not Seek Hostilities With Creators, We Fought For Continued Existence."

Legion and Tali Mass Effect 2

For the entirety of the first game and most of the second, players only get to hear about the Quarian's conflict with the Geth from the former's side. However, once Legion comes aboard the Normandy, Shepard finally gets to hear what the Geth thought about the whole thing.

With the line in question, Legion explains that the Geth did not want to battle their creators. They had to fight for their own survival as the Quarians were trying to wipe them out.

8 "How Could We Become So Different..."

Legion in Mass Effect 2

Full quote: "How Could We Become So Different? Why Can We No Longer Understand Each Other? What Did We Do Wrong?"

Once Shepard has activated Legion, the Geth reveals that not all of his species helped the Reapers. In the first game, the Geth troops working with Saren were actually Heretics. Legion himself learns more about the species split during his loyalty mission.

At one point, Legion delivers this emotional quote when he finds out that the Heretics have been spying on them. The Geth don't really have emotions, but Legion sounds a little upset when delivering this line, which is what makes it so memorable. And it adds a bit more depth to the 'rewrite the Heretics' decision later in the mission.

7 "We Have Kept Records Of These Creators’ Sacrifices..."

Full quote: "We Have Kept Records Of These Creators’ Sacrifices. They Have Largely Been Forgotten By Their Own People. But Not By The Geth."

During the Geth Fighter Squadrons mission in Mass Effect 3, players see memories of some of the biggest moments in the synthetics' history. One recollection takes place at the start of the Morning War (aka the war between the Geth and Quarians), and it shows some Quarians protecting the Geth.

It's interesting because almost all of the suit-wearers Shepard meets during their adventures are very much against the synthetic beings. So, seeing Quarians sacrifice themselves for their former servants is eye-opening. The scene gets even better when Legion says that his race will never forget those who sacrificed themselves, despite their own people doing so.

6 "You Were The Most Successful..."

Legion in Mass Effect 2

Full quote: "You Were The Most Successful. You Killed Their God. You Succeeded Where Others Did Not. Your Code Is Superior."

Throughout the trilogy, Shepard receives plenty of compliments from other organic beings. Many praise their heroics, while others respect the protagonist's combat ability. Yet, none of their kind words are as great as the line Legion delivers to Shepard.

After acknowledging Shepard's successes and how they've done what nobody else could, the unit ends the flattery by saying, "your code is superior." The synthetic's way of saying the Commander is the best is clever and comical.

5 "'Home' Is Recognized Patterns..."

Full quote: "'Home' Is Recognized Patterns. Known Spaces. Familiar Thought Processes Of Fellow Sapients. It Is Belonging."

Tali has many great lines in the series but never does she talk about the Quarians' lack of a homeworld as positively as Legion. The Geth gives his opinion on what 'home' really means, claiming it's not about the actual location and it's more about belonging.

Legion's assessment on the subject is a powerful one, especially considering he is a synthetic. Most would not expect a machine to understand feelings and certain states of mind. If only some Quarians had felt the same way as the Geth unit, they might've moved on with their lives many years ago.

4 "We Do Not Comprehend The Organic Fascination..."

Full quote: "We Do Not Comprehend The Organic Fascination With Self-Poisoning, Auditory Damage, And Sexually Transmitted Disease."

Legion always strikes a good balance between seriousness and humor. One of his funniest lines comes when he's in the Afterlife Club on Omega. The synthetic being reveals that he can't understand why organic's go to clubs.

Legion hilariously points out the main dangers of consuming alcohol, listening to loud music, and partaking in acts of passion. Technically, he's not wrong with his risk assessment, however, he seems to be overlooking the positives of all those activities.

3 "Every Point Of View Is Useful..."

Legion in Mass Effect 2

Full quote: "Every Point Of View Is Useful, Even Those That Are Wrong – If We Can Judge Why A Wrong View Was Accepted."

Legion delivers this incredible quote while discussing the Heretics' decision to join Sovereign. It works as a good explanation as to why the Geth would allow the Heretics back into their system.

Although, the line can also be a good lesson for people in the real world to learn. It's easy to ignore silly opinions or viewpoints, yet it can be beneficial to attempt to access the origin of the disagreeable point of view.

2 "Shepard-Commander. I Must Go To Them. I’m Sorry. It’s The Only Way."

Mass Effect 3 Screenshot Of Legion's Death

The conflict between the Geth and the Quarians comes to an end in Mass Effect 3. However, the exact conclusion to the long war depends on Shepard's actions. Two of Priority: Rannoch's endings feature Legion uploading Reaper code to the Geth to improve each unit.

Unfortunately, the synthetic can't just copy the code to them all. He needs to directly disseminate his personality to everyone, meaning he'll be gone. Legion's final words to the Shepard are an apology for sacrificing himself. The line is made even more emotional by the fact that he uses "I" instead of "we" for the first time, proving he is an individual.

1 "Does This Unit Have A Soul?"

Mass Effect 3 Screenshot Of Tali and Legion on Rannoch

Perhaps Legion's most famous quote in the series is, "does this unit have a soul?" It is the same question that the original Geth units asked when they were mere servants to the Quarians. At the time, the synthetics were becoming smarter and wanted to know if they were more than just machines.

Legion reuses the quote during Priority: Rannoch when he's about to upload the code that'll make the Geth fully evolved AIs. If players manage to make peace between the Geth and Quarians, the line is made even better as Tali confirms that they do have souls.
