Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is a celebration of the original Mass Effect trilogy. For those jumping headfirst into the games, having quality armor and weapons is a must. While Shepard and their crew can find all sorts of gear throughout their adventures and missions, they'd be hardpressed to find anything better than the Spectre items available after Shepard's induction.

Commander Shepard makes history in Mass Effect 1 as the very first human Spectre, an elite group of agents who work as the extended arms of the Citadel Council. The commander's Spectre rank allows them to access a select group of in-game items only available to Spectre members. Unfortunately, the cost of all Spectre gear is something close to an arm and a leg in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.

Updated May 24, 2021: Changes have been made to Mass Effect: Legendary Edition that allows the player to acquire Spectre gear right away after becoming a Spectre. Level VII gear is available from the C-Sec and Normandy Requisitions Officers right away, but higher level gear requires Shepard to be higher levels. The “Rich” achievement/trophy is no longer needed to unlock the items.

Getting Spectre Gear in Mass Effect

Fans have been having some issues with accessing any of the Spectre items in Mass Effect 1 as the result of a bug. Luckily, an unofficial workaround was found on Reddit that allows for the Spectre shop to be restocked. At the current time of writing, there's no official patch that's been pushed to remedy the issue, but once it is, or once a player manually fixes the bug themself, finding where to acquire Spectre weapons and armor is simple.

There are two places players can go to find Spectre gear: C-Sec headquarters on the Citidel and the cargo hold of the Normandy. Talking to either of the Alliance Requisitions Officers allows Commander Shepard to access the exclusive Spectre shop; however, Shepard will need to meet some requirements first before they're offered the gear.

The 'Rich' Achievement

In the original Mass Effect, accessing Spectre gear was straightforward enough: unlock the achievement/trophy "Rich" and the weapons and armor will be made available to Shepard. Unfortunately, the "Rich" achievement was cut from Mass Effect: Legendary Edition so newcomers to the game might be a little lost. To unlock "Rich," the player needs to amass 1,000,000 credits at any one time. That is a staggering number of credits, but they're earned at a relatively quick pace, and if the player is quick to sell any unnecessary items, they might get there sooner than they might think.

In Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, it might be a little unclear when the player reaches 1,000,000 credits as no achievement or trophy will unlock once they've made it. Unlocking the Spectre gear will just require a lot of checking Shepard's inventory for how close they are to 1,000,000. After hitting the goal, Spectre Master Gear will be available from both Requisitions Officers.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
