There is no denying that Resident Evil Village has been a big success for publisher Capcom, pushing the survival-horror franchise to new milestones. With gamers jumping into the latest Resident Evil title in high numbers, it seems Resident Evil Village's sales dominance on Steam has officially been surpassed by an eagerly anticipated remaster collection.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a remaster collection featuring all three mainline Mass Effect games, is now Steam's top selling game overtaking Resident Evil Village. This news comes after Resident Evil Village hit the top sales spot on Steam three times since releasing on May 7.

While it might seem strange for a remaster to achieve such high interest, a Mass Effect trilogy has been a longtime demand from fans of developer Bioware's RPG franchise. For many, it is the complete package of a trilogy that became a massive part of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era of games. While still significant in its overtaking of Resident Evil Village, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition's success was never doubted by fans who have been craving a chance to experience the trilogy again. The Mass Effect collection had long been rumored as fans believed that following the tepid response of Mass Effect: Andromeda, the franchise would remain dormant for some time. With the eventual reveal of the Legendary Edition and "The Next Mass Effect," franchise fans now know that Mass Effect is not dead.

Mass Effect is an amazing space opera packed with history

The most notable element of the Legendary Edition is that the remaster will transform the original Mass Effect into a more modern experience. Of the three games, Mass Effect 1 will see the most considerable changes, reworking the combat and adding entirely new features to help balance the game.

As players are already purchasing their way to experience the epic Mass Effect tale once again, others have been lucky enough to jump in early. Yesterday, it was confirmed that some Mass Effect: Legendary Edition buyers were able to get the game before the scheduled release date on May 14. Many of those who were able to attain copies have shared their impressions online and for the most part, the teased upgrades are definitely present within the first Mass Effect title from 2007.

So for Mass Effect fans both new and old, the Legendary Edition will be the perfect way to experience the beloved trilogy of games. Between the noted gameplay and visual improvement and the collection featuring the entire catalogue of franchise DLC, it's the definitive Mass Effect experience.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition releases May 14 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
