The much anticipated Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is out now, providing a healthy slice of nostalgia for players of the original trilogy and a deep dive into sci-fi RPG territory for newcomers. The Legendary Edition boasts an array of visual upgrades and includes over 40 DLC packages spread across each game, which might just make it the definitive Mass Effect experience. However, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has been crashing occasionally on Xbox consoles, and publisher Electronic Arts has detailed a temporary workaround.

Since Mass Effect: Legendary Edition includes Mass EffectMass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, players can potentially spend hundreds of hours discovering everything that's possible in each game. With so many hours of content, players will likely be using their best and most comfortable gaming accessories to get the most out of the journey. But according to EA, some gaming accessories may actually be part of the problem for Xbox players. The company believes that connecting a wireless headset while attempting to play the Legendary Edition may cause consoles to crash.

On EA's support forum for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, the company states that it has identified an issue specific to those playing the game on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility. This issue causes the game to immediately exit to the Xbox dashboard if it is launched while "different accessories like wireless headsets are connected." While EA has not yet specified what other accessories may be causing the problem, it seems confident that wireless headsets are the main culprit.

To prevent this issue, EA recommends that Xbox players not use any extra peripherals while trying to play Mass Effect: Legendary Edition until it can work with Microsoft to fix the problem. Currently, wired headsets aren't causing the issue and should be ok to use. For players who don't have wired headsets or still want to use wireless, EA has offered a potential workaround in order to successfully play the game.

1. Ensure your wireless headset is turned off

2: Launch Mass Effect: Legendary Edition from the dashboard.

3: Once you are at the launcher screen with the game, choose Mass Effect 1, 2, or 3.

4. Once you are at the title screen for either Mass Effect 12, or 3, you can now turn on your headset, and you will be able to play with audio working as normal.

It's also important to note that if players try to return to the launcher after selecting any game in the Mass Effect series and they still have a wireless headset connected, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will crash and return to the Xbox dashboard. EA has yet to explain why this issue seems to be occurring for some Xbox players, but the company is working on a solution at the time of writing.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
