Mass Effect: Legendary Edition became the number one best-selling game in the UK in the game's first week on the market, according to sales data. While apparently, the physical sales numbers are not too impressive, many expect Mass Effect: Legendary Edition to perform very well in digital sales.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition makes some major changes to all three games in the original trilogy, though most of them are focused on Mass Effect 1. The remaster of these three iconic RPGs has brought the series back into the limelight and apparently appears to be proving financially successful.

According to gamesindustry.biz, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition sold well enough to claim the number one spot in the UK, taking the position from Resident Evil: Village. Despite this, however, the article does highlight that the game's physical sales are not impressive, selling around half of what Resident Evil: Village did its first week on sale. These figures only represent physical sales, and it is expected that digital sales will likely be a lot higher, which seems likely as Mass Effect: Legendary Edition was also the top-selling game on Steam.

The article also points out that between the two consoles Mass Effect: Legendary Edition released on, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the game sold best on PlayStation 4 with over 68% of sales. The game is also proving to be incredible successful on PC, with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition setting a new series record for concurrent players. The remaster has also received a lot of praise from both critics and fans, which, along with the sales data, demonstrates a successful release for developers BioWare.

It has been a tough few years for the seasoned developer BioWare and its sci-fi RPG, a period which ironically began with the backlash around Mass Effect 3's endings. The next entry in the series, Mass Effect Andromeda, was released with many bugs and was poorly received. Yet, with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition's success, there is hope for the series yet. This released has proven that there is still a huge fan base for the series, and even Mass Effect: Legendary Edition's ending is improved now fans know that Mass Effect 4 is in development.

For the first time in a while, there is excitement surrounding the Mass Effect franchise, and it looks like that excitement is likely to continue along with the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition's sales success. What the future holds for Mass Effect is yet unknown, but it looks promising, at least from these sales figures.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
