May is shaping up to be a great month for gamers everywhere. Resident Evil Village is launching this very week, the long-awaited Biomutant is finally dropping at the end of the month, and somewhere in the middle will be Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. With that just over a week away from release, EA has shared some details regarding its framerate options across all available platforms. And from the sound of things, PC and Xbox Series X players are getting the best options.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition on consoles will offer two different gameplay modes, which can be toggled between at any point. Favor Quality focuses on producing the highest visual fidelity as possible, but at the cost of framerate. Favor Framerate, on the other hand, does precisely what it says. It prioritizes on providing the highest framerate possible, which means native resolution and some graphical features will need to be reduced. It's not too dissimilar to what a host of other games offer, such as Persona 5 Strikers.

The target framerate and resolution will differ depending on the console, with the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles offering higher targets than their last-gen counterparts. For example, when favoring quality, the standard PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can run up to 30fps at 1080p, whereas the PS5 and Xbox Series X can reach upwards of 60fps at 4K UHD.

However, while the PS5 is capable of reaching 60fps with either option, the Xbox Series X can manage 120fps with the Favor Framerate option. This does have to be done at 1440p resolution, but it is still one advantage it holds over Sony's console and could be what sways some over to playing the game on Microsoft's platform.

PC players can enjoy a framerate of upwards to 240fps and supporting refresh rates up to 240 Hz. And, of course, they can tweak several graphics options whenever they want, so they can essentially customize and finetune the game to fit their preferences. The full breakdown can be viewed on EA's website.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is a fully remastered compilation of the original trilogy of games. Aside from visual enhancements and technical improvements, EA and BioWare have also adjusted the gameplay. For example, the infamous Mako from the first game has been altered so it's smoother to control.

BioWare is also working on a completely new entry in the series, which is referred to by some as Mass Effect 4. It doesn't have an official title yet nor any actual gameplay, and it's completely unknown if it will serve as a follow-up to the original trilogy or Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition releases on May 14 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It can be played on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility.
