New details for Mass Effect: Andromeda may have been revealed by way of a customer survey screenshot, including the potential for future Mass Effect title.

So far, BioWare has kept quiet about the plot to the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda, but it seems that some story details may have leaked in the form of a customer survey. A post to NeoGAF shared details of a survey that the developers are using to judge consumer interests, complete with a small amount of information about the highly-anticipated title.

In a question regarding how interested the survey participant would be in purchasing the newest in the Mass Effect franchise, the following details are revealed:

"Mass Effect: Andromeda takes players to the Andromeda galaxy, far beyond the Milky Way, where players will lead the fight for a new home in hostile territory – where WE are the aliens – opposed by a deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us.

Experience the freedom to traverse and explore a planet-dense but seamless open-world galaxy, rich with discovery. Play as the leader of a squad of military-trained explorers in an intense third-person shooter, with deep progression and customization systems."

The post claims that this will be the story of humanity’s next chapter, with player choices throughout the game that will ultimately determine our survival in the Andromeda Galaxy. Excitingly, the survey goes on to reveal the potential for a "future version of Mass Effect". In this part of the survey, the new version is described as a huge battle that will take place across the galaxy.

"There is a major battle brewing, and it awaits you. It is unfolding across a galaxy of planets, with creatures and species entirely unknown. Draw your weapon, because the fight is bigger than you thought. It’s not just for your own life, it’s for all of humanity – the ultimate battle for a place we can all call home."

With a little under a year remaining until Mass Effect: Andromeda's release, we are sure to see some actual game details revealed from BioWare sometime soon, instead of having to rely solely on leaks for information on the new title. It's worth pointing out that surveys such as these are primarily used to determine marketing to go alongside a game, rather than affect the game's content. The advertisers want to know what appeals to their target audiences, allowing them to more successfully sell the product by presenting it however they think it will perform best.

Details about the Andromeda galaxy have been revealed previously, with the developers calling the new title the largest game to date. This new information seems to support this, mentioning the game's open-world aspect and giving the impression that there will be all sorts of new planets and alien life to visit and interact with. Hopefully this means that we'll see some new features in this game's take on galaxy-exploration, rather than just mining a planet for resources or going for a short drive on its surface.

In terms of other story details, we know very little, other than that Mass Effect: Andromeda will not be bringing back previous characters such as the renowned Commander Shepard. According to BioWare, Shepard's story is over with the conclusion of the Mass Effect trilogy and there is no need to bring him back, though it's likely that if players look hard enough, we'll catch references to the much-loved protagonist somewhere in the game's universe. While getting rid of the previous main character was a somewhat controversial move, the compant believes that a new Mass Effect can be good without Shepard.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is set to release in the first quarter of 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
