Mass Effect: Andromeda Single Player Updates are Done

BioWare confirms that single-player development has ended on Mass Effect: Andromeda and no further content will release, though multiplayer support will continue.

BioWare officially announced today that Mass Effect: Andromeda will receive no further single-player updates or DLC, confirming unofficial reporting going back to June. Update 1.10, a relatively small bug-fixing update that was released on July 27, will stand as Andromeda's final patch. In a letter from the "Mass Effect Andromeda Team," which was dissolved and sent to work at different studios, BioWare thanks players and hopes to "see you again in the Mass Effect universe."

For Mass Effect: Andromeda fans who were anticipating further single-player content releases, whether that be via DLC or updates, BioWare's not completely abandoning the story. Instead of continuing Andromeda's story in-game, it'll be furthered in other media including comics and novels. And yes, BioWare specifically notes that the Quarian Ark's fate is an area of focus for these upcoming releases. It may not be what fans expected, but it is something.

Multiplayer in Mass Effect: Andromeda will also continue to be updated, according to BioWare's letter.

"In the coming weeks, our multiplayer team will provide details of their ongoing support and upcoming content, including new multiplayer missions, character kits, and what’s in store for N7 Day."

For those unfamiliar, N7 Day is an annual celebration of all things Mass Effect. N7 2016 hosted some major reveals about Mass Effect: Andromeda. While 2017's N7 Day is likely to be a much more somber event, it's nice to hear that BioWare will keep the tradition going - even if it is more understated than normal.

While the focus of the letter was clearly to make the end of Mass Effect: Andromeda's development official, there was a secondary message of thanks that deserves to be reiterated. Whether you're a fan of Mass Effect: Andromeda or not, hundreds of BioWare developers put a lot of effort into a project they wanted nothing more than to be a proper continuation of the franchise's legacy. And now with the game in the rear-view mirror, there's a lot of regret on all sides. But there's also an opportunity to look to the future.
