BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn reveals on Twitter that Mass Effect: Andromeda won't have a Season Pass, and said more info about DLCs will be coming later.

With the holiday buying season complete, gamers and developers are looking forward to the games set to release throughout 2017. One of the most highly anticipated games of 2017 is BioWare’s Mass Effect: Andromeda, the next edition to the popular space exploration adventure franchise.

With so much excitement building around Mass Effect: Andromeda, gamers have taken to social media to seek out as much information as possible from the game’s developer, BioWare. The studio's general manager, Aaryn Flynn, has been very active recently responding to fans’ questions and concerns.

One of the most recent answers he provided on Twitter was concerning whether or not Mass Effect: Andromeda will have a Season Pass. Flynn’s response to inquiries about the matter was simple, yet profound: “Nope.”

This is big news for gamers, especially considering the current state of the gaming industry. It seems many developers are on the hunt for any way to capture as much revenue as possible for each game launched. This includes selling Season Passes for upcoming expansions, adding microtransactions to games, and pushing multiple editions of each title at release.

When asked what that means for Mass Effect: Andromeda’s DLCs, Flynn said the developer would talk about that later.

The fact that Mass Effect: Andromeda won’t have a Season Pass seems like good news, though gamers will need to wait for more information to confirm that early impression. When it was revealed that another EA game, Titanfall 2, wouldn’t have a Season Pass, it was because the game’s developer, Respawn Entertainment, was planning to release all future DLCs for free. Hopefully, gamers can expect the same from BioWare, though there’s nothing yet that seems to hint toward free updates for Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Now that BioWare has revealed the release date for Mass Effect: Andromeda, it seems the marketing team has been called in to begin their work. In the last several days, the developer has revealed a new trailer at CES, detailed the console resolutions for the game, and that players on Xbox One can play the game early with an EA Access membership.

With a little more than two months to go before release, and some ground to make up after gamer backlash over character animations shared during The Game Awards, BioWare and EA will undoubtedly be hard at work revealing new details about the game, and showing off plenty of gameplay footage to get players excited for the newest Mass Effect title.

What do you think about BioWare and EA’s decision to skip the Season Pass for Mass Effect: Andromeda? What do you think it means for the game?

Mass Effect: Andromeda releases March 21, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
