Mass Effect: Andromeda is Already 25% Off at Retailers

Although the game only released on Tuesday, some retails are already offering Mass Effect: Andromeda and some of its tie-ins and discounts of more than 20 percent.

It’s only been a little over two days since the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda, and already players are spotting discounts for the BioWare developed title. In fact, in some instances players can pick up Mass Effect: Andromeda at discounts of up to 20%, which is nearly unheard of for a brand new release.

Currently, both the Xbox One version and the PS4 version of Mass Effect: Andromeda are available at Amazon for $52.40. That’s 25% off the retail price, less than a week after release.

And those Mass Effect fans that want to get a little more out of their experience as the Pathfinder can get the Official Strategy guide at a steep discount as well. Priced at $23.99, the strategy guide is 40% off. With the guide, players can find out which characters they can romance as either Scott or Sara Ryder, as well as tips on which resources to look for when scanning planets.

Of course, Mass Effect: Andromeda is not just any release, but one the most anticipated games of 2017. That makes it all the more surprising that retailers would be willing to slash prices, when this week is when the game is supposed to generate the most sales.

Some might point to the cold reception to Mass Effect: Andromeda as one of the reasons behind these early discounts. No doubt much of the discussion around the game has been negative, with many maligning Andromeda’s facial animations, which can look stiff and disjointed. Coming out of the EA Access early trial for Mass Effect: Andromeda there weren't many positive things said about the game, and any good comments, like talk of improved combat or the detail in the world, were overshadowed by the strong reactions to the animation.

Quick discounts are not anything new for Electronic Arts, though, who saw one of its major 2016 releases, Titanfall 2, drop 50% within the first month of release. Obviously, things are a little different for Mass Effect: Andromeda, but the surprising price change is still the same.

Only time will tell how much of an impact the animations had on sales for Mass Effect: Andromeda, but if these early price drops are any indication things are not looking good. EA presumably wanted the game out by March to bolster a strong end of the fiscal year 2016, but that may not be the case. 25% price drops mere days after launching is anything but strong.
