While responding to a fan on Twitter, Mass Effect: Andromeda producer Michael Gamble confirms that the game's Asari squadmate, Peebee, can be romanced.

A key feature in many BioWare games is the ability of the player to "romance" other characters in the game. Romancing is returning in BioWare's upcoming sci-fi epic Mass Effect: Andromeda, but the studio has decided to keep the romance options in the game a secret. However, one possible romance option has slipped through the cracks in the form of the Asari squadmate Peebee.

BioWare recently released a video featuring Peebee voice actress Christine Lakin as she introduces her character to fans. In the video, Lakin enthusiastically describes Peebee's quirky personality and how the characters grows over the course of the adventure. She also mentions that Peebee can "fall in love" during the events of Mass Effect: Andromeda, which led to speculation that she was either a romance option or would become involved with another character in the game.

Curious fans that couldn't wait until Mass Effect: Andromeda's release in March to learn whether Commander Ryder or someone else aboard the Tempest spaceship would be romancing Peebee took to Twitter to ask for clarification. One fan managed to get an answer out of Mass Effect: Andromeda producer Michael Gamble, who simply confirmed that Peebee can indeed be romanced in the game.

Gamble's short answer still leaves one big unanswered question:  Can the Asari squadmate Peebee be romanced by both versions of Commander Ryder? As of the time of this writing, there is no definitive answer to that question. Similarly to the original Mass Effect trilogy, players can select a male or female version of Commander Ryder, so depending on Peebee's sexual orientation, some players may be unable to romance her.

Of course, it's worth noting that the Asari are a complicated species that in the past, haven't seem too concerned with sexual orientation or gender. In fact, the Asari are mono-gendered, and capable of reproducing with anyone they can successfully "meld." If Peebee is like past Asari players have encountered in the Mass Effect franchise like Liara, chances are good that she can be romanced by both the male and female versions of Commander Ryder.

However, Peebee isn't much like other Asari. Her bubbly, energetic personality stands in stark contrast to the somewhat cold and calculating personality of other Asari from the Mass Effect universe, so at this point, it's hard to say if her sexual habits align with the other members of her species or not.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be available on March 21st for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
