It’s no secret that many fans were disappointed by Mass Effect: Andromeda when it launched in March 2017. The development team at BioWare Montreal has since pledged that patches are inbound to fix some of the game’s most glaring errors, and now we’ve been given an update on the status of those efforts.

Mike Gamble, a producer on Mass Effect: Andromeda, took to Twitter to give fans some information about the studio’s plans to fix the game. While he wasn’t able to share a specific date, or any plans for what the patch will address, he did confirm that the team is hard at work.

Gamble was later asked what fans could expect from the patch. He declined to offer up any extra information, simply responding with the hashtag #soon, which seems to suggest that some kind of official announcement is on its way.

Some of the biggest criticisms leveled at Mass Effect: Andromeda focus on its awkward animation system, which has been ridiculed ever since early footage of the game hit the scene. One fan even took to Photoshop to redesign some of the game’s wonky facial designs, making the human characters look a little less like aliens.

However, it remains to be seen whether these issues can be amended by applying a patch, or whether the problems are simply too big to fix post-release. That being said, BioWare did already distribute an update that improved the quality of some facial animations, so many fans are willing to give the studio the benefit of the doubt.

While there are no doubt scores of players that enjoyed their time with Mass Effect: Andromeda, it’s fair to say that the sequel wasn’t exactly a home run. Very few aspects of the game turned out to be great, and that’s a problem for a title that hopes to shake the stigma associated with its predecessor.

The ending of Mass Effect 3 produced a lot of negativity among the fanbase, and the problems with Andromeda haven’t done much to improve the situation. There are tons of gamers out there who would like to see Mass Effect return to its former glory, but these upcoming patches will have to deliver if the franchise is to preserve its audience.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
