Mass Effect: Andromeda will reportedly not feature any single-player DLC, according to a report from Kotaku. DLC cancellation rumors have swirled over the past 24 hours, but sources close to BioWare are now coming forward to say that the sci-fi RPG's DLC plans have indeed been undone. These news sources stand apart from the previous day's rumors, which have since been debunked. Mass Effect: Andromeda appears to be remaining on ice for the foreseeable future.

While BioWare had never officially announced any forthcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda single-player DLC, it was expected early on and hoped for later. Not only does BioWare have a long history of robust post-launch DLC support for its RPGs, but BioWare had also provided several hints both within the story itself and in post-launch multiplayer DLC regarding potential plans. Should this new information prove true, however, those plans are certainly canceled.

Everything changed for Mass Effect: Andromeda following the wave of negative feedback after the game's launch in late March. Not only did BioWare have to issue an apology regarding quality complaints, but the Montreal studio then had to spend development time addressing those issues as fast as possible. While BioWare has spoken very little regarding the state of Mass Effect: Andromeda beyond the corrective patches over the past months, insider reporting suggests that the the plug has been pulled on the game.

Mass Effect: Andromeda's failures apparently went well beyond just this single game, with reports revealing that the BioWare Montreal team had been dismantled and sent to work on other EA/BioWare projects. What was meant to be the first game in a major trilogy instead resulted in the entire Mass Effect franchise being put on hiatus.

The original Mass Effect studio, BioWare Edmonton, is hard at work on Anthem -- and may be working on Anthem for the next 10 years. There's simply no other studio left to begin working on Mass Effect at this time.

Despite reports all but confirming Mass Effect: Andromeda's future was bleak, several days ago new rumors surfaced regarding potential DLC being teased by BioWare employees. Again, nothing official was confirmed but it was said that some plot threads would be receiving closure. With these new reports stating that there will be no Mass Effect: Andromeda single-player DLC, one has to wonder exactly what those BioWare employees were hinting at. Fans will likely hold onto that tease as hope that Mass Effect: Andromeda hasn't gone as cold as it seems.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
