Ever since EA and Bioware released the teaser for the new Mass Effect game, fans have been waiting for more news with bated breath. As a result, many fans have come up with theories regarding the setting and the content Bioware may choose to integrate into the next game. Some of these theories may be unorthodox and strange; however, others may actually turn out to be true, and may make the game great if so.

6 All Endings Are Canon

Mass Effect 3's Endings may all be canon in Mass Effect 4

One of the biggest surrounding the new game is how it will handles the ending to the original trilogy. Based on the information given in the teaser, Bioware may be moving forward with the Destroy ending, as fans have spotted a Reapers corpse in one of the shots. However, that decision may upset for some fans who might have chosen Synthesis, Control, or even the Rejection ending.

To satisfy most, if not all, of the fanbase, players have theorized that Bioware may make all of the endings canon. Certain events may take place shortly after the Crucible would have been activated, and the new game may be based on these events.

5 The Game Will Bring The Original Trilogy & Andromeda Together

Mass Effect: Andromeda's crew may make contact with The Milky Way

Mass Effect: Andromeda has players journey to the Andromeda galaxy and in search of a new home. Players manage to do so with Meridian, and also come across The Kett as the game's antagonists. During the course of the game, players can find that others have attempted to communicate between The Milky Way and Andromeda; however, these attempts were fruitless.

Fans don't receive any information about these transmissions, but the fact remains that a message was sent. Some theorize that the upcoming Mass Effect with bring both galaxies together and contact will be made. The crew from Andromeda will meet people from the Milky Way, and the two groups will unite against the new threat in the new game.

4 Shepard Is Alive And His Crew Is Searching For Him

Shepard's Crew mourns his loss but will look for him if they have a clue of his survival

In the teaser for the new Mass Effect game, Liara seems to be searching for something on an ice-planet. A few seconds later, the trailer hints that she may be looking for Commander Shepard as she picks up what appears to be a piece of his armor. Many fans believe that it points to the plot of the new game.

According to some fan theories, Commander Shepard survived the events of the Original Trilogy and the crew of the Normandy is searching for him. These theories provide further support for the idea that Bioware may choose to canonize the Destroy ending, as it is the only one in which Shepard may have survived. Fans also speculate that Liara or other members of Shepard's crew will feature as the playable characters in the new Mass Effect game.

3 New Game Set Between Mass Effect 1 & Mass Effect 2

New Mass Effect game might be set between 1 and 2 and might delve into the backstories of the crew

This is similar to the above theory, but at a different place in the timeline. When Mass Effect 2 starts, the Normandy SR-1 comes under attack from the Collector ship and gets destroyed. During this attack, Commander Shepard seemingly dies. Afterward, Cerberus spends two years reviving Shepard, giving him a new Normandy afterwards. During the game, players have the chance to go to the snow-covered planet where the wreckage crash-landed. In the teaser for the new Mass Effect game, fans see Liara exploring a snow-covered planet, eventually picking up an armor piece with the N7 emblem on it.

Fans believe Liara picked up a piece of Shepard's helmet, which he wore in Mass Effect 1. Theories suggest she was looking for Commander Shepard after his ship crashed. Based on these moments from the trailer, some fans claim that the new game may be set during the time period between Mass Effect 1 and 2, rather than acting as a sequel to the main trilogy. Should this be the case, gamers will most likely play as Liara or someone who works for her, and will be searching for Shepard's body.

2 Leviathan Is The Big Bad Guy

Leviathans from Mass Effect are extremely powerful and may be the next threat in Mass Effect

With the Reapers defeated in Mass Effect 3, the galaxy will be left with a sizable power vacuum. Due to the losses suffered fighting the Reapers, most of the galactic races will not be in a position to gain dominance. However, the Leviathan race may be in a position to gain the upper hand.

During the Leviathan DLC, players come across one of the members of the species. They learn the Leviathans created the AI that made the Reapers, and that Harbinger was made by harvesting Leviathan essence. Despite their very limited numbers, the Leviathans hold an astounding level of power over the Reapers. This has led some fans to theorize that the Leviathans may regain the upper hand after the war and dominate the galaxy. They suggest that the new game will feature players finding a way to defeat the Leviathans and save the galaxy.

1 Shepard's Child May Be The Main Character

Shepard looks lovingly at Ashley in Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect allows players to design the perfect character according to their preferences. Players have the opportunity to decide how Shepard looks,  his background, combat class, etc. In the original trilogy, players can choose between being an Earthborn, Spacer, or a Colonist.

For the upcoming Mass Effect game, many fans theorize that players will have a fourth choice. They will be able to choose to be Commander Shepard's offspring as a child background. The theory suggests that Bioware may allow players to import their previous saves from the original trilogy. Depending on who players romanced in the games, they will be able to pick being Shepard's son or daughter as a background.
