It's been quite a while since fans of Mass Effect 3 have had a new trailer or glimpse of story to keep their hunger at bay until the game's 2012 release, but the wait is over. At tonight's Spike VGAs, BioWare rolled out yet another look at what players will be in for when Mass Effect 3 arrives, and once again, it proves that fans have plenty of reason to be excited.
Most of the BioWare news in the lead up to tonight's awards have centered around the studio's new Command & Conquer title, and while that's all well and good, there's no shortage of fans who want nothing more than to finish Commander Shepard's story before moving onto anything else. Granted that story may be changed after the beta leak, but we'll give the developers the benefit of the doubt.
BioWare has made it clear that cinematic excellence and hard-hitting drama are what Mass Effect is counting on for appeal, with their live-action 'Fall of Earth' trailer more than impressing fans and non-fans alike. The latest is no exception, including a fistfight between a massive Reaper construct and a just-as-massive sandworm. Feast your eyes on the latest trailer for Mass Effect 3:
It's hard to not be impressed by anything the team shows at this point, since the studio has clearly hit its stride at this point. What was shown of the game at E3 made it evident that the emotional factor, as well as the gameplay was being given more time than usual for the series' climax. The newest trailer is no exception, hopefully convincing even the skeptics that this game will be an ending that's even bigger and better. It certainly won't be the end of the franchise, but it will be for Commander Shepard - whether male or female.
In case combat matters more to you than story, then be sure to check out the latest class combat videos. The developers claim that Shepard will be more dynamic than in past skirmishes, and from the trailers and developer diaries released, it's hard to argue.
Mass Effect 3 will be released for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on March 6, 2012. Follow all our coverage of the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards for the newest trailers and announcements.
