Due to a colossal fail on Microsoft's part, an early beta version of Mass Effect 3 appeared on Xbox Live for download and use by dashboard testers before quickly being taken down. While undoubtedly, many got a glimpse of the game this way, all it takes is one to spill the beans on the internet and thanks to this accidental leak (or was it?) fans have an idea at some of the Mass Effect 3 single and multiplayer modes being worked on.

This isn't however, all that BioWare is having trouble containing since the single-player story has also leaked online, the most sacred and secretive part of the game. Read on for BioWare's official words on the matter.

The leak originated from a Russian Mass Effect fan site but as far as we can tell, it was thankfully taken down yesterday. BioWare's Jesse Houston took to the forums to confirm that there were story leaks and that they were investigating, ensuring fans that the spoilers are not representative of the final product.

"We are still investigating, but it appears that some internal story files have been leaked. Even though the information in those files is out of date and does not reflect the final story experience, we urge fans not to read them if they want to experience the purest form of the story in Mass Effect 3."

The response is unfortunately a media-trained one and it's possible that what was leaked is in fact, the exact story of the game. We are avoiding these spoilers and you should too. No good can come from seeing these and it's a shame there was a leak.

In other Mass Effect 3 campaign related news, Jesse Houston also took part in an interview on the BioWare blog where he confirms that the multiplayer characters from the new Galaxy at War co-op mode will not appear in the campaign. Since the multiplayer characters can be customized by the players, this isn't surprising but the main reason on BioWare's part is because they don't want to create a situation where players who only want the single-player experience are missing out on something from not jumping in on multiplayer. Think of the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer as 100% optional and in the form of side quests.
