Easily one of the most anticipated games of 2012, considering we at Game Rant initially ranked it the #1 most anticipated game of 2011, Mass Effect 3 has generated plenty of buzz in the gaming community recently: endless back and forth speculation on multiplayer, rumors of an MMO, and even the hair color of the female Shepard – the list doesn’t stop.

Rob Blake, the audio lead for Mass Effect 3, tweeted recently that Mass Effect 3 will include at least 40,000 lines of voice acting. That sum is nearly the same amount of spoken lines from ME1 and ME2 combined, having 20,000 and 25,000 respectively.

While action/RPG games at their core, both installments were very heavy on story and character development, especially Mass Effect 2, and it is no wonder why Legendary Pictures is interested in making a Mass Effect film. The source material is definitely there.

40,000 though? No word on whether that number includes only one line of “I have to go” or if they count all 4,229.

All joking aside, that is a massive amount of spoken dialogue and not too surprising from BioWare, who have implemented fully voice-acted dialogue into their large-scale, MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Knowing the general details of the Mass Effect 3┬áplot, that is a whole lot of yapping that Shepard and his crew are doing whilst the Reapers are laying waste to Earth’s population centers.

Mass Effect 3 Choices and Pacing

One would have to be of the mindset that a good portion of these 40,000 lines of spoken dialogue are probably side missions. No one is quite sure how long the actual core campaign is, but considering the various locations that Shepard and his crew will be visiting, it is not difficult to assume that there will be plenty of opportunities for multiple side missions to chip away at that 40,000 figure.

Still, 40,000 and 40,000, and that’s a lot of talking. This gamer appreciates a good story, and with this much dialogue, a lot of work is going into characters speaking their mind. There are undoubtedly plenty others who simply get their jollies out of blowing up Geth, so win win..

Mass Effect 3 will be released March 6, 2012 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
