According to the Spike Video Game Awards, Mass Effect 3 is the most anticipated game of 2012, and no wonder. Mass Effect 3 will bring the story of Commander Shepard’s battle against the Reapers to a close, packs in a multiplayer mode, and promises the most dynamic combat the series has seen.

On the slim chance that there may still be a few lost souls who haven’t committed to playing the game, Electronic Arts and BioWare are sweetening the deal even further. Announced just today, the pre-order program for Mass Effect 3 awards players with unique and powerful in game weapons and/or armor, depending on retailer.  A pair of new trailers shows just what gamers can expect from the bonuses.

First, the good news. Gamers who pre-order Mass Effect 3 anywhere at all will score the Argus M55 Assault Rifle. BioWare promises that the weapon is “deadly at any range,” while the precision marksmen out there will likely appreciate the M55’s ability to fire quick bursts of ammo — all the better to conserve that precious resource and boost accuracy at the same time.

Moving on to the next link in the pre-order chain, Mass Effect 3 fans who throw down some cash at GameStop or EB Games will be ready to charge into battle decked out in some serious armor and packing even more heat. The N7 Warfare Gear bonus starts with the N7 Defender Armor, which offers improved shields and health, plus a boost in both ammo capacity and weapon damage (which the press release attributes to the suit’s “built in power cells,” in case you were wondering how that works). The N7 Valkyrie Assault Riffle should put that extra damage to good use. The Valkyrie is all about power and accuracy, firing “two superior high caliber rounds per-shot.”

Finally, players who opt to go the Origin route get the AT-12 Raider Shotgun, a rapid firing weapon with a huge spread for when the fight gets up close and personal. For a closer look at all the pre-order goodies, check out the gallery below.

The pre-order bonuses give Mass Effect 3 fans every reason to invest in the game now, and for just an extra $20, the N7 Collector’s Edition could be the way to go. Though it probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, GameStop customers once again score the best deal, just as with another of Electronic Arts’ big Spring games, SSX. Then again, a rapid firing shotgun does sound pretty useful. Decisions, decisions!

Where will you be pre-ordering Mass Effect 3? Which platform will you play the game on?
