Mass Effect 3 Fan Art GR Pick

Every now and then a fan makes something that really makes head turn, whether it be a lego production or a even a full-fledged krogan.  Patryk Olejniczak, a Polish artist, has crafted a series of paintings which are not only breathtaking, but could easily be confused with fantastic concept art for Mass Effect 3 itself.

Across the last two months, Olejniczak has worked on and posted four pieces featuring Miranda Lawson, Garrus Vakarian, Thane Krios and Commander Shepard himself. Taking a look below certainly shows that he put a lot of hard work into the stunning project.

On his blog, he exaplained that his reasons for producing a set of Mass Effect artwork was simple - he wanted to make some of the best fan art that had ever been seen. In that aspect, we believe he's certainly succeeded.

It's not hard to notice that there's a lot of themes going in in the paintings themselves. For instance, the Commander Shepard piece is supposed to showcase the tough decision-making that the game's protagonist is faced with on a constant basis. The empty room emphasizes the gloominess of his decisions, and the blood and wounds to show what he's been through.

Thane's image is deprived of rich colors, reflecting the subdued and calm nature of Thane's emotions. Patryk also stated he left out jagged edges to give the impression of Thane being in motion, as he is often seen darting around corners and generally eluding detection.

It should come as no surprise that Garrus is pictured in combat, his armor and weapons scratched and worn from hunting his targets. Is it any wonder why he's a fan favorite of the series?

Patryk uses several screenshots and other artwork for reference, but digitally paints the pieces from scratch. He has some other fantastic artwork on his blog, where viewers can find even more video game characters, and some older Mass Effect 2 artwork that he's completed.

It wouldn't be surprising if Patryk soon found work as a concept artist, but in the meantime we can enjoy the work he does as a hobby.

What do you think about the Mass Effect 3 artwork? Would you have mistaken it for official concept art from BioWare?

Mass Effect 3 is slated to come out near Holiday season 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
