Comic book characters are adored for their design and personality that are put on comic pages. With each depiction, elements of that character remain, even if the character, like Spider-Man, is over 60 years old. The characters from the Marvel Comics are iconic, and the depiction of these characters in Marvel’s Spider-Man takes some but not many creative liberties on their comic accuracy.

With a plethora of rogues, allies, and other sorts, the legacy of Spider-Man is well represented in Marvel’s Spider-Man. Insomniac Games takes great care and pride in the franchise, and it shows in the game they have developed. Some of the best comic-accurate characters will hopefully appear again for Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

8 The Kingpin

wilson fisk from marvel's spider-man

Wilson Fisk has great representation from the pages of Marvel Comics to Marvel’s Spider-Man. The character holds the same principles, wealth, and power as the comics’ version. Wilson Fisk is a notorious crime boss and has his hands in most of the organized crime in New York City. With the NYPD and Spider-Man finally taking Fisk down, a power vacuum is left in his wake, and many dangers await a crime-reborn city with Fisk out of the picture.

Fisk is known in the comics for being an adversary to street-level heroes like Spider-Man and Daredevil. The character also saw a recent return in live-action for Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye and the confirmation for Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again Disney Plus Series.

7 Miles Morales

A character with a recent and bright legacy, Miles Morales spends his time in Marvel’s Spider-Man learning about power, responsibility, and courage. Players will experience Miles’ story, through tragic loss, and his determination to do the right thing, even before the spider-bite that turns him into Spider-Man.

Miles has great characterization in this game, and the developers truly care for the character of Miles Morales, considering he received his spin-off titled Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and will be the joint protagonist of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

6 Scorpion

Marvel’s Spider-Man does a great job in introducing audiences to the newly forged Sinister Six. One such member is Mac Gargan, known by the villainous alias of Scorpion. This supporting antagonist is a mercenary in a high-tech suit, one that gives him great strength, speed, endurance, and a stinger to poison his victims.

Scorpion stays true to his comic origins and mentions how, because of J. Jonah Jameson, he is trapped in the high-tech suit. Scorpion’s criminal activity often involves murder, robbery, kidnapping, and hatred for Spider-Man, all of which are present in the game.

5 Rhino

Known by the alias Rhino, Aleksei Sytsevich is another criminal trapped in a high-tech suit. Rhino longs for the day of escaping the metal prison that entraps his body, but not before killing and crushing anyone that gets in the way of his goal. Rhino has great power and uses his skills as an ex-mob enforcer rather than his limited intellect.

Rhino’s near indestructibility makes him extremely dangerous and capable of destroying buildings with ease. The collateral damage Rhino can cause is present in the comics and the game. Rhino has quite the history with Spider-Man, and nothing will stop the quipping web-head from annoying the character.

4 Black Cat

black cat from marvel's spider-man

Felicia Hardy has a rather complicated relationship with Spider-Man. The two are often seen in Marvel Comics in a flirtatious chase. It’s impossible to figure out if the characters will fight, kiss, or both. Marvel’s Spider-Man presents that relationship well, with the characters already having a history together and with no need for an origin story.

Not only does the game get the relationship between Black Cat and Spider-Man right, but it also does justice to Felicia Hardy. She is cunning, smart, agile, and always two steps ahead in her big con. She’ll work together professionally with those with who she knows she can reap the rewards.

3 Aunt May

may paker from marvel's spider-man

Peter Parker would not be the same without his aunt and uncle. May Parker is a huge influence on Peter Parker’s life and unknowingly keeps him balancing his act of Spider-Man and Peter Parker. Aunt May is a great character in the Spider-Man mythos and is entirely selfless, not just to her nephew, Peter Parker, but to the world, as she operates management of the non-profit organization F.E.A.S.T.

Aunt May is an important character to Peter in the comics, and she holds equal importance in Marvel’s Spider-Man. The game does a great job at making the player feel for Aunt May and discover the hardships she goes through as a widower just trying to do the right thing.

2 J. Jonah Jameson

j jonah jameson from marvel's spider-man

On the surface, J. Jonah Jameson only needs three things to perfect: a flat-top haircut, a mustache, and a hatred for that web-headed menace, Spider-Man. This surface-level introduction to J. Jonah Jameson is present in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, the animated shows, Marvel Comics, and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Jameson slanders Spider-Man at every turn, no matter the good the hero does for New York City.

Jameson has a much deeper character in the comics, which many fans hope is further explored in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. For the game, the character is a satire of Alex Jones, spouting conspiracy online. However, the game gets right the lengths Jameson will go through to not praise Spider-Man for a good job, as well as the anger issues in his voice.

1 Spider-Man

spider-man from marvel's spider-man

With great power comes great responsibility. It’s a phrase that has followed Peter Parker as both a gift and a curse. As the titular character of Insomniac GamesSpider-Man, Peter Parker is given the most room to grow. The character is funny and constantly quipping and annoying his enemies whilst webbing and kicking them.

Not only is Spider-Man’s personality great as he traverses the city of New York and battles the villains, but as Peter Parker, there’s an equally great representation of a comic-accurate performance. Peter is always late, yet always caring and sorry for struggling to balance his superhero and personal lives. Despite all his power, Peter is still human, and it shows in his relationships and struggles.

Spider-Man Remastered releases for PC on August 12, 2022.
