While everyone is pumped to see the return of the Spider-Men in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, they should never forget the men behind the masks. Peter Parker and Miles Morales have come a long way in their respective games, both as superheroes and as people. Hopefully what they have learned in the past will help them combat whatever new threats await them in the upcoming sequel.

One of the biggest challenges Peter Parker will have to face in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 isn't a supervillain, but rather his lack of proper employment. His previous tenure as Otto Octavious's lab assistant didn't go so well and now he is caught in between jobs. But seeing as he did a good job serving as Miles Morales' mentor, it wouldn't be such a bad idea if Peter took a more active role in others' educations.

Where Is Peter Now?

Defeating Doctor Octopus may have saved the city of New York, but it cost Peter Parker his job. He was already having trouble paying his rent in Marvel's Spider-Man, but now the lack of financial sources has pushed Peter to the brink of poverty. At this point in his life, Peter has already left his full-time job at the Daily Bugle. The rants of J. Jonah Jameson against Spider-Man proved too much for the young adult, and he sought employment elsewhere.

Thankfully Jameson has retired from the Bugle by the events of the first game and has now taken up a more modern occupation as a podcaster. This prompts Peter to take a part-time position as a photographer for the Bugle and helps Mary Jane Watson as she covers an ongoing story in Symkaria. While players never control Peter at this time (these events take place during Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales), they can get his impressions via the many phone calls he makes to his ward, Miles Morales. Peter also tells Miles that even though he enjoys taking photos for the Bugle, he would like something more permanent, to which Miles suggests teaching.

Professor Peter Parker

Miles' suggestion doesn't come out of the blue. Peter did a great job teaching Miles how to be Spider-Man, mostly because he was the only person who was right for the job. Peter never had the luxury of a mentor when he was learning how to be a superhero, so becoming Miles' mentor was a breath of fresh air. He imparted useful tips to his mentee about costume upkeep, improvisation, and most important of all, learning from one's mistakes. All these lessons helped Miles become a capable Spider-Man in his own right.

But this wasn't the first time Peter dabbled in education. One of the backpack collectibles - an Empire State University badge - provides some insight into Peter's short time as a teaching assistant. Peter says he couldn't stick with the job at the time but mentions that he can definitely see himself teaching again someday. This line not only alludes to some of the comic book stories wherein Peter is a college professor, but it could also hint at his future occupation.

Using the ESU badge in Marvel's Spider-Man and the numerous calls between Peter and Miles in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales as clues, it seems very likely that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will have Peter taking up a teaching position. His teaching experiences coupled with his scientific knowledge make him an ideal candidate for an Empire State University professor. Since he has also moved in with Mary Jane, Peter now has more responsibilities put upon him. And seeing how important responsibility is to Spider-Man, it is only right for him to find a more stable source of income.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is in development for PS5.
