Thanks to an internal shift in attitude within Sony, more and more PlayStation first party games are now making their way to PC. While this phenomenon was once thought to be impossible, hits like Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War have already launched on the platform to critical and commercial success. With more resources being diverted toward the initiative, it’s hard to see any IP or game being fully off the table when it comes to a port. That’s about to become even more true, though, as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is set to be the next game to jump from PS4 and PS5 over to PC.

Due to the number of parties involved with the project, and the sheer sales juggernaut the series has become for Sony and Disney on console, there was a sense that PC fans might be left out when it came to the iconic superhero. However, players now know for certain that in less than a month's time, Insomniac Games’ modern classic will be available to purchase on the platform. With the clock ticking down rapidly toward Peter Parker’s upcoming appearance, now is the perfect time to take a look at everything fans need to know about Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC.

Spider-Man Launch Details

Marvel's Spider-Man Win Fist

One of the reasons why there was some skepticism surrounding a potential PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man had a lot to do with Insomniac Games’ schedule. Between Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine, and a rumored multiplayer project, the studio has all of its arms full at the moment. Thankfully for Insomniac and its soon-to-be PC fan base, though, Sony has come up with a timely solution to this conundrum. In between its acquisitions of Housemarque and Bungie, the publisher has also added renowned PC porting studio Nixxes Software to its first party family.

Nixxes’ first announced duty as an internally owned Sony studio will be to port and launch Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC this year. Unless there’s a last minute delay, fans should keep its current expected release date of August 12 in their calendars. When it comes to the online PC storefronts that the game will be accessible on, both Steam and the Epic Game Store will be supported out of the gate at launch. In terms of pricing, the game will also set back players $59.99, which is slightly cheaper than the controversial price point that first party games currently retail for on PS5.

Remastered Spider-Man Content

It’s important to keep in mind that the incarnation of Marvel’s Spider-Man that's about to debut on PC will be the Remastered version of the game that launched alongside the PS5 in 2020. Even though it came bundled with the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on console, it looks like players on PC will have to purchase each game individually. While it’s been confirmed that Miles’ coming-of-age solo adventure will eventually find its way to the platform at an undisclosed date during Fall 2022, no bundle or discount options have yet to be announced.

Sony’s decision to allow Nixxes to port the Remastered version of Marvel’s Spider-Man specifically ensures PC players will get a few added bonuses, though. One of the most significant of these is the 3-part City That Never Sleeps DLC expansion story, which comes packaged with every copy of this version of the game. Accessible after the main single-player story has been finished, these chapters bridge the cap to Miles’ adventure as well as the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. They also offer deeper insight into Yuri Lowenthal’s incarnation of the hero, who has quickly become a firm fan-favorite.

All of Peter Parker’s Spidey suits will subsequently be unlockable when Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered launches on PC as well. It’s worth keeping in mind that this incarnation of the game does feature Spider-Man’s redesigned face model, though, which is a design decision that's garnered mixed reception from fans over the last few years. Thanks to the vibrant modding community that exists on PC, new fans will be able to tailor this and plenty of other customization options to their own preferences - arguably ensuring that the port is the definitive version of the game in the process.

Spider-Man’s PC Features

Spider-Man PC Specs

From a technical perspective, it’s clear that Nixxes Software is doing all it can to help make Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered a standout experience on PC. The announced NVIDIA DLSS and DLAA support it’s enabled are just two of the graphical options on offer that should make the game look even more visually impressive than it already was on PS5. Multiple output resolutions, ratios, and rendering systems will all be available to players with the right hardware, as will ray-traced reflections and a raft of other configurable settings.

How much PC players are able to take advantage of these options will obviously depend on the hardware they have at their disposal. Even though Nixxes has strived to make Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered a technical show-stopper for anyone who’s splashed out on new technology, the studio has gone to great lengths to promise that players with all-sorts of PCs will be able to access and enjoy the game too. 8GB of RAM, for example, will form part of the game’s minimum recommended specs.

What will be available to all players though, regardless of their rigs, is full DualSense support. Over on the PS5 Sony’s new controller has gone down as one of the current generation’s best innovations, so its compatibility with Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered’s PC port is a welcome sight. Players can look forward to gleefully swinging through the streets of New York City with adaptive trigger feedback and haptic responses. Beyond all of these options, it’s worth keeping in mind that cloud saving, achievements, and controller remapping will all be present and correct as well.

Pre-Ordering Spider-Man

To get PC players as ready as possible for Spidey’s arrival on the platform, Sony has made sure that several pre-order options are available right now. Anyone who’s interested in playing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered can pre–purchase the game on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Doing so will net them access to the Spider-Punk and Velocity Suits, as well as Tom Holland's MCU Iron Spider costume. It should be pointed out that each of these aesthetic options, as well as the Spider-Drone combat gadget and 5 extra skill points also on offer, can all be accessed through normal gameplay fairly easily.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is out now for PS5, with a PC version launching on August 12.
