Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, despite being a standalone expansion, was one of the biggest games to release last year. It was well-received by both critics and fans on launch, and was one of the highest-selling PlayStation exclusives according to the NPD Group.

Miles Morales takes place in the same open-world of New York City, but players have access to new moves in the form of special Venom powers. As Peter Parker goes out of town in the beginning of the game, Miles takes on the responsibility of keeping crime under control. Although Miles Morales was a PS5 launch title, it was also available on PS4, and Sony has just released a new trailer for the previous generation version of the game.

Similar to videos that are uploaded near the launch of a game, the PS4 trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales introduces the story while giving a glimpse at a few gameplay sequences. It shows various set-pieces and boss fights from the game, and teases Miles’ unique Venom powers. The trailer also highlights that anyone who purchases the PS4 version will get the PS5 edition for free. Despite being the same game, the PS5 version comes with a few extra features such as ray-tracing, a high framerate mode, and extremely fast loading times.

It is extremely strange for Sony to drop a trailer for the PS4 version of the game almost a year after its initial release. Judging by the comment section, fans have had a similar reaction to the video. There is a possibility that some aspiring consumers do not know that the game is also available on PS4, as it was heavily marketed as a marquee PS5 title. However, if that were to be the case, it would have made more sense for Sony to release the trailer earlier in 2021.

Regardless, Miles Morales will seemingly play a key role in the upcoming Spider-Man 2, a full sequel that was revealed in September during the PlayStation Showcase event. While both Peter and Miles will be playable, Spider-Man 2 is a single-player game and will not feature co-op gameplay of any kind.

The team behind Miles Morales is currently heading development of Marvel’s Wolverine. Given the positive reception to Miles Morales and other recent releases from Insomniac Games, expectations will be sky-high for Wolverine. Just last week, it was confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine is being penned by the writer of Spec Ops: The Line, a game known for having an excellent story.
