While there have been a few interesting rumors for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, one of the most exciting came recently. If it turns out to be true, there will be multiple Symbiote suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, with every costume in the game getting a Symbiote variant. Given how long players have been waiting for the black suit to be usable, this would be a great way to reward that patience, as there would surely be some gorgeous outfits available.

However, while giving Symbiote fans numerous cosmetic options in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be great, Insomniac Games should not stop there. Considering that the usage of the Symbiote suit marks a significant change in Peter Parker’s personality and fighting style in the comics, Insomniac should find a way to replicate that shift in the games. Fortunately, there are a few ways that the developer could make Spider-Man feel like a completely different person when players equip the Symbiote suit.

All The Ways That The Symbiote Suit Could Change Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Gameplay

One of the most obvious ways for the Symbiote suit to impact gameplay is through the addition of tendrils. Fans have already suggested that the Iron Spider legs shown in the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 reveal trailer could be replaced with tendrils, a great touch that would make the suits feel like more than just another costume. While this change would essentially just be cosmetic, it would be a great detail that adds to the experience of wearing the black suit.

Another clever touch would see Insomniac Games making adjustments to Peter’s fighting style. When wearing the suit, Peter becomes more violent and aggressive, holding back less than he would normally. This could be reflected in his combos, with Peter’s hits becoming faster and less graceful. More damage would be another way to reflect how the suit makes Peter stronger, though Insomniac would need to find a way to keep the costumes balanced.

Finishing moves would perhaps be the best way to reflect a change in Peter’s fighting style. Spidey already had a few finishers that hit hard in the first game, but some even more brutal maneuvers could be introduced to his Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 moveset. While it is unlikely that he will outright kill his foes, as that may be a step too far for the character, the idea of him letting loose makes sense. Finishers that look nastier, whether they be repeated punches to the head or drops on the neck, could be an excellent way to reflect Spidey’s attitude adjustment.

Yet another way to showcase a darker Peter Parker would be in-game dialogue. While this would require a lot more recording and voice work from Spidey actor Yuri Lowenthal, it would go a long way to helping with immersion. Just like how the first game had different dialogue for when Peter was swinging or standing still, he could have different responses when the Symbiote suit is equipped. His quips could be meaner after stopping a random crime, he could respond to J. Jonah Jameson’s rants more negatively, and calls to MJ or Miles could be a lot less jovial.

Lastly, it is important to reflect the allure of the Symbiote suit and why Peter is so tempted by it in the first place. The costume enhances each of Spider-Man’s abilities, and letting players feel that increase in power while swinging would be an excellent way to reflect the black suit’s benefits. Swinging faster and pulling off new tricks would not bring about the same balancing issues as a boost to damage in combat, so it would be one of the simplest ways to reflect the upsides to the Symbiote suit. While fans would surely still be happy if the game’s Symbiote costumes were purely cosmetic, there is a lot that can be done to make them more meaningful when equipped.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
