Every Spider-Man fan has a favorite Spidey suit, whether it's the classic blue and red, a variation on it, or something completely different, maybe even from a different multiverse. Over the last 60 years, there have been countless Spider-Man suit designs, and the best ones have consistently found their way into Spider-Man's video game offerings, most often used as unlockable rewards for completing side activities. But Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is introducing a brand new Spidey suit feature that's never been seen in the hero's long history of video games.

In all of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's marketing over the last few years, both Peter Parker and Miles Morales have only been shown to wear one costume each, both being those they attained during their respective games. Then the first gameplay trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 gave fans their very first look at the brand-new Symbiote suit, which players will seemingly be able to equip over the now-iconic Advanced Suit. Just recently, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 revealed its pre-order and deluxe edition bonuses, bringing a total of 12 alternate suits to the game already, and there's one new feature that makes at least a couple of them immediately better than the prior games' Spidey suits.

Spider-Man 2 Pre-Order Bonus

Insomniac's first two Marvel's Spider-Man games had a truly impressive selection of alternate suits for both Peter and Miles, with the first game having a total of 47 including DLC and the remastered skins, and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales having a total of 19, which is still impressive. These suits could be unlocked through a variety of different means, from completing story missions and finishing side quests to stopping random crimes. While not all of Insomniac's Spidey suits were equal, a good two-thirds of the line-up was worth writing home about, with suits coming from across both Spider-Men's comic book and movie history.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has just revealed a handful of new suits heading to the game on launch, with two given with every pre-order, and the rest all being locked behind the digital deluxe edition of the game. The deluxe edition offers five skins for each Spider-Man, 10 in total. While none of these designs come directly from the comics, most of them have been clearly inspired by some iconic runs or characters, like Miles' Red Spectre suit seeming like a nod to Gwen's Ghost-Spider, and Peter's Mysterio-like 25 Century suit.

But by far the most interesting reveal in this announcement relates to the two pre-order bonus suits for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Much like the first two Spider-Man games, these two suits will be unlocked right away for those who have pre-ordered, but those who haven't will still be able to unlock them later on in the game naturally.

Named the Arachknight and Shadow-Spider suits, with Peter wearing the former and Miles the latter, these two costumes have been heavily inspired by the Infinity Wars comic arc that saw Spider-Man and Moon Knight's souls get cosmically fused together. It's great to see some more niche comic costumes in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but if players would prefer a more unique look, they only need to change the suit's color variant. For the first time in Spider-Man video game history, players will be able to change the color of their suit.

Both of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's pre-order skins come with three additional color variants, completely changing the color of the highlights, trim, and body. Right now, only these two suits have been confirmed to feature different color variants, but with them being early unlocks of base game suits, it seems fairly likely that the rest of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's suits will also boast several different color variations. Just in terms of sheer numbers, this could easily double or even triple the amount of Spidey suits in the previous games, especially with both Miles and Peter getting their own unique wardrobes.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
