Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be a truly massive game. Aside from voice actors saying as much in interviews, the reveal trailer for the game confirmed that the two Spider-Men would feature alongside two major antagonists in Venom and Kraven. With lingering plot threads for Wraith and Kingpin present as well as confirmation that figures like The Lizard exist in-universe, there could be plenty of foes for the wallcrawlers to fight in the next game.

Despite all these villains to battle, there will likely be some others scattered throughout Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that players are not expecting to see. While many will want to see iconic members of the friendly neighborhood hero's rogues gallery like Sandman and Mysterio, it would be just as interesting to see Doctor Michael Morbius get some time to shine. If he is given his own quest line, the villain could end up stealing the show.

Redemption For The Morbius Character

Morbius

Sony’s Morbius film was a flop both critically and commercially (even though it did spawn some hilarious memes), but that does not mean that the character should be avoided in the world of video games. On the contrary, Morbius’ morally gray nature and shifting motivations could make him an interesting choice for a side character, with Insomniac Games able to make him either a full-on villain or a reluctant ally like Silver Sable.

By including Morbius in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games would instantly be solving the problem with the Morbius film and Sony’s Spider-Man movie universe. All the films in the series suffer because they do not feature Spider-Man, a character that is integral to the stories of the characters they focus on. Not only are projects like the El Muerto movie odd due to their main character’s obscurity, but seeing a Kraven that is unable to hunt his most sought after prey or an Eddie Brock with no hatred for Peter Parker is strange. Insomniac would have two Spider-Men to pair up with Morbius, though, allowing for classic Morbius stories to be adapted through Peter and fresh tales to be told via Miles.

How Morbius’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Content Could Work

Morbius

Much like Tombstone in the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, Morbius should feature his own chain of connected side quests, with the missions capping off in a battle against the vampire. These missions could start with a vampire appearing above ground, introducing a completely unique enemy type to the game. These vampires could have super speed, strength, and teleportation, with echolocation allowing them to spot Miles even when he’s invisible.

After taking down the first vampire, Miles and/or Peter could track them down below ground, finding a lair in the sewers. They could then be forced to fight through these underground areas, which would not only be a change from the typical New York City aesthetic, but would also be more difficult. With less room to swing around, movement would be hindered, forcing players to make less mistakes since the vampires would be able to close the distance fast.

Eventually, a lengthy boss battle with Morbius could take place, with Miles and Peter both fighting the villain. Aside from more health, some kind of bleed effect for his attacks would be a great way to differentiate him from the other vampires, and it could be fun to see his claws damage Spider-Man’s suit. Once defeated, players could learn that Morbius had good or evil intentions, with Insomniac delivering its own take on the doctor-turned-vampire. With the capability to provide a unique location, special enemies, and a strong story, Morbius should absolutely appear in some future Marvel’s Spider-Man content.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
