As of now, fans know little about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Still, while the game is not confirmed to be in development, Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter has hinted that mocap work is being done for the sequel. Beyond that, gamers know that the Symbiote will play a big role in the next game’s story, as it has been teased in post credits scenes for both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. If Insomniac follows the comic book arc, it seems likely that the Symbiote will latch onto Peter at some point.

A Symbiote-infected Peter Parker could become more of a villain than a hero, forcing Miles to bring him down at the end of the next Marvel’s Spider-Man game. While it will be both awesome and heartbreaking to see the two superheroes battling one another, a similar plotline could have been seen if Infamous 3 had been made. With that franchise featuring two protagonists and a good/bad morality system, a new game could have featured an incredible battle between Cole and Delsin. While Sucker Punch has seemingly moved on to Ghost of Tsushima, making such a game unlikely, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could be a harsh reminder of what could have been.

The Potential Of Cole vs. Delsin In Infamous 3

While there are plenty of directions that a new entry could have gone in, having dual protagonists like The Last of Us 2 would have undoubtedly been the most interesting option. Though having Cole and Delsin team up would have been a fun, traditional superhero adventure, having them fight one another would have been significantly more memorable. It could have also been a natural evolution of the Good and Evil Karma system that featured in the superhero games.

Players could have controlled Cole in the good playthrough and Delsin on the evil playthrough, leading to two entirely different campaigns to complete. While good Cole would be fun to see again, as he remains significantly more popular than Delsin, evil Delsin has limitless potential. With the bad ending of Infamous Second Son seeing him leech powers from every conduit, he would essentially have limitless abilities in a third game. As such, not only would he be a blast to play, but he would be a truly tough final enemy for Cole to face. With the story able to be as simple as Cole coming out of hiding to stop a power-hungry Delsin, or Delsin hunting down Cole for his powers, a third Infamous could have been something truly special.

The Potential Of Miles Morales vs. Peter Parker In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

While it is unclear if Sucker Punch will ever return to Infamous, as it seems to have its hands full with new Ghost of Tsushima content, Insomniac returning to Marvel's Spider-Man is all-but-confirmed. With both Spider-Man games being such huge successes, and a sequel so heavily teased, it is only a matter of time before gamers are swinging and crawling through New York City again. When they do, they will be experiencing a version of the Symbiote storyline, and it will be interesting to see what Insomniac does with it.

While the debut of Venom is undoubtedly exciting, and there is plenty of potential for some other Symbiotes to appear, it would be a missed opportunity to not include the corrupt version of Peter in the game. Not only would this be a shocking twist from a story perspective, as it would force fans to dislike a character they have grown to love, but it would make Peter’s moveset much deeper. Tentacle-based attacks could be mixed into his usual combos, making the Symbiote suit more than just another costume. With Miles’ Venom powers already making him more fun to play, giving Peter Symbiote abilities could help him stay on Miles’ level.

Much like how Infamous 3 could have seen Cole and Delsin fighting, with both being playable, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 should make this happen. Players could stick with Peter on the "bad" playthrough and control Miles in their "good" runs, with two different endings created for the final battle. Another option would see players controlling Peter for the first half of the game, switching to Miles once the original Spider-Man takes things too far. Either way, the next game seems poised to give fans a Peter vs. Miles fight thanks to the Symbiote teasers. If this does happen, fans could control two different superheroes as they fight one another — something that Infamous 3 could have easily done as well.
