Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be an exciting game for several reasons. It will feature two Spider-Men in its narrative, with Miles Morales now being a proper hero in his own right and assisting Peter Parker in the defense of New York City. The game will also be exclusive to the PlayStation 5, allowing Insomniac Games to take full advantage of Sony’s next-gen console.

While combat additions like Peter’s Iron Spider Legs are exciting, too, one aspect of the game that has fans particularly hyped is the villain lineup. Based on the reveal trailer, the main story will see the two wallcrawlers fighting a pair of iconic villains from the Spider-Man rogues gallery. However, given the teases that were present in the first few games, many more villains are likely to feature in side content and throughout the narrative of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Venom and Kraven - The Main Threats

Following two post credits scenes that set up his debut, it is no surprise that Venom is going to be a primary antagonist within Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Further, it can be assumed that Peter will be particularly concerned about this villain, as all signs point to Harry Osborn being Venom instead of Eddie Brock or Flash Thompson. While it is unclear if Peter will get infected with the Symbiote, some emotional fights between Spidey and Venom are likely.

The other major villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be Kraven. While he could serve as a secondary antagonist like Mr. Negative and make up a good chunk of the story’s first two acts, he could also be Miles’ main foe. Assuming Peter is busy with Venom, Kraven could be hunting after Miles, seeing him as the more challenging hunt due to his cloaking abilities and Venom Strikes. With Kraven’s move set being hugely different from Venom’s, he should make for a unique boss battle.

Wraith, Lizard, and Kingpin - Minor Adversaries

Gamers should also remember that Wraith is set to play a role in the sequel, as The City That Never Sleeps DLC went out of its way to set up Yuri Watanabe’s transformation into the anti-hero. While she will likely argue with Spidey over her morals and the decision to kill villains, the two could team-up for the greater good. Some have even theorized that Wraith could be playable, which would be a neat surprise.

Alongside Wraith, Kingpin and Lizard are likely to appear in side missions. Curt Connors, AKA The Lizard, shows up in the post credits scene for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. With Peter having already fought him once in the past, having him transform back into The Lizard would not be surprising. As for Kingpin, the side missions in Spider-Man: Miles Morales primed him for a comeback, with the crime boss threatening Miles’ friends and loved ones. If he can somehow escape The Raft, Miles could be in for a tough fight.

Other Villains That Could Show Up

While the five villains mentioned above are easily the most likely to appear, there are some other characters that could show up in the sequel. Taskmaster could return to study Miles Morales, and with Sandman confirmed to exist within Insomniac’s universe, he could make for an exciting opening battle. Considering that Wraith uses stolen gear from Mysterio in the comics, the special effects master could play a role in the game. With a Mysterio boss fight guaranteed to be a spectacle, many would love to see him included. Based on the costumes at Marvel's Spider-Man's halloween party, and some dialogue from Peter, he is also a known player within Insomniac's universe. As such, an appearance from Quentin Beck could be right around the corner.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 for PS5.
