During Summer Game Fest today, Firaxis and 2K Games showcased a brand new trailer for Marvel’s Midnight Suns. As many know, Marvel’s Midnight Suns had originally been slated for a March 2022 release, prior to Firaxis’ decision to delay it to the second half of 2022. Now, thanks to this new trailer, fans now know when they can pick the game up: October 7, 2022.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns lets players take on the role of a customizable Hunter, as they assemble and lead a crossover-like party of heroes including the newly-reformed Midnight Suns, the Avengers, and more. They are attempting to defeat the newly-resurrected Lilith, Mother of Demons, as she seeks to fulfill a prophecy and bring her dark lord, Cthon, back into the world.

The trailer also gives more glimpses into Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ social systems and combat, with the trailer giving fans a lot to look forward to. Of course, the new trailer also builds a ton of new hype for two more heroes on the Marvel’s Midnight Suns roster: Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch. Both are now showcased on the cover, and then in the secondary cover/special editions of the game, fans can see some villains standing beside Lilith, including Fallen Venom, Sabretooth, Incredible Hulk, and Scarlet Witch (whose story is no doubt integral to it all, as both hero and villain).

This means that 12/13 heroes on the Marvel’s Midnight Suns character roster have now been revealed. Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch join the Hunter, Doctor Strange, Magik, Iron Man, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Blade, Captain America, Nico Minoru, and Captain Marvel. This means there’s one character left to be revealed, and interestingly enough, that character may be a secret for a while. Game Rant recently previewed Marvel’s Midnight Suns and interviewed Creative Director Jake Solomon, who said one character would not be unlocked until the end of the game.

When asked how spread out unlocking heroes in Marvel’s Midnight Suns was, Solomon stated that

"For all the characters, you have to beat the game. You have to beat the game to get the last one, yeah...That's one we have not announced yet."

This veil of mystery around one character will no doubt raise some eyebrows. There’s still plenty of time between now and the Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ October release to reveal who they are (if Firaxis doesn't keep their entire identity a secret), though, so for now fans will just have to wait and see.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns releases on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on October 7.
