Marvel’s Midnight Suns was originally supposed to release last March, which would have made it almost three months old already. But following its delay, Firaxis has effectively gone quiet. This is likely for the best, mainly because the developer had stated Marvel’s Midnight Suns will now release in the back half of the year instead of in the first half, and it is nearing an eventual release as the year’s remaining months gradually dwindle.

Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest is now one of the summer’s most anticipated gaming festivities in the wake of E3. Only few details have been confirmed so far, such as a string of events that are scheduled between June 9, when Summer Game Fest kicks off with a live celebration, and June 12, when the Bethesda and Xbox Showcase airs. The opening kick-off is commonly a platform for world premiere announcements and cinematic trailers, but the announcement of Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ new release date would also make for a welcome surprise at Summer Game Fest.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is Currently in Development Limbo

It is uncertain how Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ development has been affected, whether positively or negatively, by the delay. Based on the early demonstrations that were shared publicly, Marvel’s Midnight Suns looked to be in a favorable condition.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns boasts a unique character roster of characters that have been absent from recent big-budgeted Marvel games, such as Ghost Rider, Blade, and Doctor Strange. Likewise, its card-battler system ties into its tactical RPG strategy on particular battlefields in half of Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ gameplay, while the other half consists of interacting with these Marvel characters in the Abbey as players roleplay as the customizable Hunter character.

Chances are that Marvel’s Midnight Suns may be close to finishing development, with a planned release date announcement in the works already. But because Firaxis has gone silent since its delay announcement, it is difficult to tell how far along it has come since November.

However, one clue has recently suggested that Marvel’s Midnight Suns may be close to announcing its new release date. The Australian Board has rated Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and with an official rating, it seems likely that it is nearing its upcoming launch. If so, the perfect place for Firaxis to announce this new release date would be at one of the summer’s biggest gaming celebrations, Summer Game Fest.

Summer Game Fest is the Soonest Opportunity to Share a Release Date

Because it is seemingly releasing sometime within the next seven months, Marvel’s Midnight Suns needs to have a new release date set in stone. The only reason why Marvel’s Midnight Suns should not appear at Summer Game Fest in a couple of weeks is if Firaxis has another platform or plan for announcing its release date.

Otherwise, Summer Game Fest is the perfect pedestal to announce such news on. Summer Game Fest already has a number of rumored games appearing that were intended to release this year, as well as games that already had a release window of next year, and gameplay can be demonstrated from them at this event in order to amplify excitement going into the new year.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns has already presented an ample amount of gameplay, but a cinematic trailer that perhaps reveals another unannounced character or two alongside the reveal of a new release date could establish its name in mainstream media again. Further, a cinematic trailer shown at Summer Game Fest could introduce fans to the deluxe or collector’s editions planned for Marvel's tactics RPG.

Marvel's Midnights Suns is currently scheduled to release in the second half of 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
