Marvel’s Midnight Suns has an interesting future ahead of it with three more DLC chapters in store. Deadpool has already arrived as the first of Midnight Suns' four playable DLC characters, with Venom, Morbius, and Storm scheduled to follow in that order. Marvel’s Midnight Suns now has an abundance of playable characters who have their own personalities and strengths, and it will be exciting to see what Venom, Morbius, and Storm offer to the experience as a whole. In particular, Dr. Michael Morbius may be the most challenging DLC character to design.

Morbius has a genius-level intellect, but that unfortunately cannot be represented in tactical turn-based combat as easily as his pseudo-vampirism abilities. However, Morbius is a rather simple character with not a lot of distinguishable abilities aside from his vampirism, which could make him difficult to place in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Because the game already features the vampyres as part of Deadpool’s DLC, the Bleed status effect that gradually depletes health, and the dhampir Blade, it might be increasingly tough to make Morbius feel unique.

The Bleed Status Effect Has Become Rampant in Midnight Suns

Players will be seeing a lot of the Bleed status effect between now and the conclusion of Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ post-launch content. Bleed is a rather troublesome mechanic when wielded by enemies, and that is essentially the main strategy of Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ vampyre enemies. Bleed is also Blade’s specialty, though, and can be incredibly useful if Blade is able to apply the status effect to multiple enemies. Lifesteal is also an important Bleed-adjacent status effect that can help restore Blade’s health using his Stake heroic card, and his Cold Blooded passive ability gives all of his damage a small chance to inflict Bleed.

Now that Dracula has also been confirmed for Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Morbius is at high risk of feeling like just another vampiric character thrown into the mix. Morbius’ character has been ironically pedestaled by the lambasted movie of the same name, and that could be enough to make him an interesting addition to the Abbey. Still, it will be difficult to make his character truly stand out in gameplay as a result. Thankfully, Morbius has been shown to exhibit one ability that could give him an advantage.

Morbius’ Hypnosis Can Distinguish Him Most in Midnight Suns

Morbius has none of the gun-toting or katana-brandishing that Blade has. Instead, Morbius’ most unique ability that could conceivably be used in Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ tactical gameplay is mild hypnosis. Hypnosis could easily be represented in Marvel’s Midnight Suns as a status effect where Morbius forces his enemies to attack their allies for a number of turns.

This would work similarly to the Fallen Scarlet Witch’s Corruption status effect, but as a primary card ability perk for Morbius. Upgrades and mods for Morbius’ cards could then increase the number of turns an enemy is hypnotized for or increase the damage dealt each turn. Bosses are typically unaffected by a lot of the status effects cards apply, but Morbius could become a three-character team staple in Marvel’s Midnight Suns if his Bleed or Hypnosis could be applied to bosses as well.

Morbius and Blade will have a lot in common as characters in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and it would be great if players could see them interact when Morbius is eventually released as a playable character. Despite this, Morbius will hopefully be able to stand apart as his own unique, worthwhile addition to the roster.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions coming later.
