Throughout Marvel's Midnight Suns, players are guided through all sorts of puzzles by the ghost of Agatha Harkness. Her inclusion comes fresh off the heels of being introduced into the MCU via Wandavision, but these versions are very different from each other. She serves as an antagonist for Wanda Maximoff in the MCU, but in Marvel's Midnight Suns she acts as a friendly guide.

Agatha Harkness' time in the MCU is just getting started, but already she has caused major disruptions within Wanda Maximoff's life. Agatha in Marvel's Midnight Suns has already lived a long life, and was pretty close to Wanda in the past, but she died well before the events of the game. While they are both supposed to be the same character, they seem to be the exact opposite of one another.

Agatha Harkness Is an Antagonist in the MCU

Agatha using her purple magic in WandaVision

Agatha Harkness is one of the latest additions to the MCU, first introduced in WandaVision where she spent her time messing with Wanda Maximoff. She wanted to absorb Wanda's chaos magic, and attempted to do this by disrupting Wanda's life inside the Westview Hex. She sent an imposter version of Pietro to mess with her head, constantly showed up at Wanda's house, and she was responsible for killing Sparky the dog. The show ends with Wanda trapping her inside the Agnes persona until further notice.

Throughout WandaVision, Agatha Harkness is a very charismatic and comedic witch. Kathryn Han portrays her as a very snarky, powerful magic wielder, and she even sings a little song to reveal herself. However, underneath the surface exists a far darker character that is willing to do whatever she needs to do to accomplish her mission. While viewers do not get to see much of that, the show spends some time hinting at the things Agatha is capable of.

During her short screen time, viewers learned that Agatha was once a member of a coven of witches in Salem that attempted to kill her for practicing dark magic. Instead, she absorbed their life forces, and eventually she was called to Westview by the powers of the Scarlet Witch. That is really all the MCU has shown so far, but Agatha: Coven of Chaos is bound to go deeper into her character.

Agatha Harkness is a Guide Through Marvel's Midnight Suns

The version of Agatha Harkness who players meet in Marvel's Midnight Suns seems to be a lot kinder than the MCU variant. She helps the player solve the various puzzles around the Abbey, and also helps them unlock the words of power they can use to reach new areas. As she helps guide them through these puzzles, players will slowly uncover an interesting backstory that helps set this version of Agatha apart.

Before her death, Agatha Harkness served as a mentor for Wanda Maximoff. She tried to help her control her powers, but that would ultimately lead to Agatha's death and Wanda's expulsion from the Abbey. She also seems to have strong ties to the Hunter, and the game alludes to a romantic relationship between her and the Caretaker. She seems to have assisted, or at least befriended, Logan at some point in life, as he has some affection for her cat.

Agatha's demeanor in Marvel's Midnight Suns is much calmer than the version viewers see in WandaVision. She looks older, and acts a bit more passively. She does not seem to be antagonistic to any of the heroes, and it seems like all she wants to do is help. It is a nice contrast to the wilder, aggressive MCU version, and Marvel fans may be debating which one is better for years to come.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions in development.
