Marvel’s Midnight Suns releases Storm tomorrow as its final post-launch DLC character, but there are explicit teases in-and-around the game’s marketing that suggest this will not be the last fans hear of the game. Indeed, fans already know that Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Storm DLC is not even the final post-launch chapter, with one final chapter culminating all four DLCs with a bonus chapter. It is uncertain what will become of the game or its potential sequel afterward, but Firaxis and 2K should plan to include characters who have recently been stripped from fans.

It is easy to assume that Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ content would drop off after its post-launch Season Pass characters have all been released. However, YouTuber Christopher Odd made a fairly explicit nod in the gameplay breakdown for Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Storm that this would not be the final character after all. It is difficult to predict whether that means new characters are still on their way as DLC, but a second DLC or full-fledged sequel needs to hop on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s popularity by introducing one or more of its characters to the game.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a much darker and more tragic approach to the contemporary MCU formula, but it is also arguably the MCU’s most empathetic and comedic entry as well. The Guardians of the Galaxy is really only an affiliation that many fans know about because of James Gunn and the MCU, and therefore it was unsurprising to see similarities in Eidos-Montreal’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Because the Guardians of the Galaxy were not previously as iconic in their depictions as Iron Man or Captain America, there was a lot of wiggle room afforded to Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot in trying to make them as original and personable as possible. The ragtag group of space-faring hooligans may still not be as popular as a lot of Marvel characters, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has allegedly closed the book on its chapter in the MCU.

Interestingly, it was revealed that Star-Lord will be reprised later in the MCU, and it is possible that other integral members of the Guardians could be, too. But in the meantime, Marvel’s Midnight Suns should try to recapture that magic in the absence of the Guardians’ team as a whole.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Sequel Should Give Itself the Guardians of the Galaxy Hype

Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ playable characters blend together personalities from far different social circles and intergalactic importance. Thankfully, characters as monumental as the Hulk and Spider-Man are paired with lesser-known characters such as Nico Minoru or Robbie Reyes’ particular Ghost Rider, which allows fans to enjoy characters they already adore while introducing them to characters they may learn to love.

The MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy had taken a similar risk following The Avengers’ iconic roundup of notable characters, but has stuck to that niche in a way that has worked out well for it. Now, a Marvel’s Midnight Suns sequel would not necessarily be plucking random characters out of obscurity if it featured Guardians of the Galaxy characters.

But because they are popular as a result of the MCU, Guardians of the Galaxy characters could find a welcome home in Marvel’s Midnight Suns since the MCU is seemingly done with them. That said, Marvel’s Midnight Suns should not simply adapt these characters as identical replicas of their MCU counterparts if it wants its own narrative and character interactions to feel unique.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions releasing May 11.
