In a random turn of events, Deadpool has taken over the marketing for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and rebranded the game as Deadpool Suns. The self-recorded taping remarks upon how Deadpool wants to join Marvel’s Midnight Suns and even pokes fun at how fans are hoping and expecting Moon Knight to join instead. Deadpool presents a crayon illustration of what his black, gold, and white Midnight Suns costume could look like, asks fans to beg “the powers that be” to include him in the game, and is a new figure that could not come at a better time for Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ marketing.

Deadpool comes as a huge surprise because fans have already long known Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ playable character roster, and he was nowhere to be seen. Moreover, Deadpool requesting to be in the game rules him out as Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ unlockable final character, since they will still be kept secret until players are able to beat the game themselves. Still, Deadpool being revealed in any capacity is incredibly exciting and bears a ton of potential for fourth-wall breaks and jabs made at development, marketing, and other promotional material for Marvel’s Midnight Suns before launch.

Deadpool is Exactly the Hype Man Marvel’s Midnight Suns Needed

Marvel’s Midnight Suns has had a couple delays that potentially hurt how excited fans were for its release. Besides Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ announcement of Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch, there has not been much to amplify its excitement beyond its gameplay showcases and lore breakdowns.

But even those have been more muted, and have not exemplified how much players are anticipating the game. That is why Deadpool’s sudden appearance in the game’s marketing is fantastic and it could not be timed more perfectly. Deadpool is able to explicitly break the fourth wall and communicate with fans, make witty remarks at the expense of Firaxis, 2K, or Marvel, and exist beyond the bounds of Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

It is almost certain that fans would love for him to be a part of the game, and hopefully as a playable character with his own unique deck of cards in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. While fans are still waiting for more details to emerge, Deadpool is still currently part of the game in an undisclosed capacity.

Deadpool’s Takeover Could Tease Marvel’s Midnight Suns Post-Launch DLC

It is still unclear whether there is a possibility of Deadpool joining the base game, post-launch as a DLC character, or if he will not end up in the game after all, particularly since nothing has been officially confirmed in that regard. Marvel’s Midnight Suns' marketing seems to simply be gauging if fans would like for him to appear. However, the extent to which fans engage with this social media request may or may not have any conclusive impact on whether he is added.

There are a few clues that point to his inevitable inclusion in the game. For example, Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Deadpool is voiced by Nolan North, who famously played the character in High Moon’s Deadpool. It would be difficult to imagine him returning with only a small part in the game’s marketing. Secondly, an effort was made to give Deadpool an actual character model and default costume design. If there were no definitive plans to add him at some point, that seems like a bunch of needless work and time that could have been concentrated elsewhere. Instead, Deadpool being added as a post-launch DLC character may be the most likely result of this marketing ploy.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns launches December 2 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions coming later.
