Robert Pattinson is an interesting case. He's like the jock in high school who excels on the football team but then surprises everyone when he shows up to the talent show and absolutely slays it with a flawless interpretive dance routine. So it's less of a surprise and more of a given that he's in such high demand now, and Marvel's Kevin Feige wants to capture that lightning in a bottle.

Industry insiders have reported that Feige is particularly keen on the idea of bringing Pattinson in to star in an upcoming Star Wars film. The currently unannounced and untitled new entry in the series will feature original characters and an original story, setting it apart from the most recent movies which all banked on nostalgia to varying degrees. With such a departure and a clean slate, Feige appears to already have a role in mind for the former vampire and current bat.

Pattinson gained a similar brand of notoriety to his co-star Kristen Stewart during and immediately following their tenure in the rather infamous Twilight movies. They were both seen as these perfectly marketable stars who flourished in high-profile roles that prioritized style far above substance. Both actors have since worked to break free of that image, with Stewart and Pattinson each going their own way.

Pattinson, who focused more on smaller projects which resonated with him following the end of the Twilight series, has emerged into the spotlight once again in recent years. His acclaimed performance in the 2019 arthouse film The Lighthouse, which saw him starring opposite Willem Dafoe, might have still been surprising for those who only knew him from his more high-profile roles. However, recent developments like his part in the well-received (if not financially so) Tenet and his upcoming portrayal of Bruce Wayne himself in The Batman are sure to warm audiences up to the idea that Robert Pattinson is absolutely one to watch.

As for how he'd fit into a Star Wars movie, considering the film will try for an original bit of storytelling in what has largely been a more cohesive franchise, the possibilities are nearly endless. Plus, considering how versatile Pattinson is as an actor, there aren't many types of roles he wouldn't absolutely nail. There are the classic smugglers and bounty hunters who tend to be safe choices when trying to think up new Star Wars characters, and he could tackle those no problem. But how about something fresh? Maybe he could be a force-wielder with no allegiances to the light or dark side, a la Jolee Bindo from Knights of the Old Republic. Ok, maybe it's not that fresh, but it would still be cool.

It's always nice to see people achieve unexpected new heights like this. Who would have thought that helpful Hufflepuff student (who deserved better, dang it) would end up rising to Batman status and beyond? Who knows? Maybe Hollywood has a new Michael Keaton on its hands.
