So far, Marvel’s Avengers has incorporated characters that are primarily associated with the Avengers, with the likes of Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Hulk and even the young superfan Ms. Marvel. But the recent announcement of Spider-Man coming as an exclusive character to the PlayStation versions of the game, a character who is mostly not associated with being on the Avengers team, has raised some questions on who else could show up in Crystal Dynamics’ game.

Since the announcement of Spider-Man joining the PS4 and PS5 versions of Marvel’s Avengers, many fans have voiced their grievances over one of Marvel’s biggest heroes being withheld from a huge swath of potential players on the Xbox One and Series X. It has also led some to wonder if another character could become an exclusive for Microsoft, like a member of the X-Men on the Xbox, to even things out.

While neither developer Crystal Dynamics, publisher Square Enix, or Marvel have addressed the possibility of Microsoft getting an exclusive character, the idea of an X-Men member being added to the game for everyone has been recognized as possible. In a recent interview with PlayStationTrophies, Creative Director Shaun Escayg was asked about the possibility of someone from elsewhere in the Marvel Universe, like Wolverine or Rogue from the X-Men, turning up in Marvel’s Avengers, to which he responded:

"It [the possibilities] extends to all of the 80-year history, and the process of choosing these characters is 'can we ground it in this world and can we make a real argument to Marvel that this character belongs here?' -- this character will move our story forward or take us into new stories. It's all about how we write it, how we sell it, how we situate it, and how we then bridge that into a new threat or new escalations of threats."

So there is a possibility that a member of the X-Men could become a part of a future DLC for Marvel’s Avengers, provided it suits the story. There have been more than a few X-Men who have made the jump from the X-Men to the Avengers in the comics as it turns out, including the aforementioned Wolverine and Rogue. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who fans of the MCU should be familiar with, were originally children of Magneto before joining up with Captain America and friends, meaning there are quite a few X-Men who could fit into an Avengers story.

It will likely be some time though before an X-Men member could show up as part of a DLC, as there already a few characters planned for release like Spider-Man for PlayStation platforms and the recently announced Hawkeye for everyone. But hopefully an X-Men member will make an appearance someday. In the meantime, those who are interested in the game can participate in the beta for the game over the next few weekends.

Marvel's Avengers releases September 4 on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
