While Marvel's Avengers features some of Marvel's marquee names for players to feel heroic with, some players are hoping another hero clad in flying armor will join the team - War Machine. The game currently features several heroes who are extremely similar already, from Clint Barton and Kate Bishop to Thor and Jane Foster. It is not outside the realm of possibility for Crystal Dynamics to give a similar alternate to Iron Man in the form of one of his closest friends and allies.

Marvel's Avengers originally launched with a roster of only six heroes for players to take control of - Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, and Ms. Marvel. Subsequent DLC and updates have expanded the roster, bringing it up to 11 playable heroes at the time of this writing including Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, Jane Foster's Thor, Black Panther, and Spider-Man. As for who is next, Crystal Dynamics has confirmed the next member of the team will be Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, who will join as part of a future content update.

In regard to War Machine, there are several players online hoping Col. James Rhodes will find his way into the game sooner rather than later. One such player is Reddit user oldmansavage12, who shared their hope of seeing War Machine added to Marvel's Avengers following the addition of The Winter Soldier. Oldmansavage12 injected his hope with a bit of humor, channeling the beloved 90s X-Men animated series to share his hopes for War Machine.

War Machine, as mentioned above, is the moniker for Col. James Rhodes when piloting the Iron Man-variant suit gifted to him by Tony Stark in the comics. Compared to Stark's Iron Man suits, Rhodes' War Machine suit sports a gray/silver color scheme and is heavily armed, most notably with one-to-two shoulder-mounted weapons ranging from chainguns, missile launchers, and energy blasters. Rhodes is currently portrayed by Don Cheadle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, taking over the role in Iron Man 2 following contract disputes with Terrence Howard, and is set to be the focus of his first MCU feature film in the upcoming Armor Wars.

As for his potential place in Marvel's Avengers, players can argue it isn't out of the question for War Machine to be one of the next featured heroes. The game's roster, much like the comics, highlights how two heroes can bear the same name but still offer their own spin on it, such as Jane Foster's Mighty Thor channeling her future as Valkyrie by wielding Undrajarn the All-Weapon as part of her ultimate attack. War Machine, by comparison, could be easier to design a more unique ability lineup around due to his focus on ranged and heavy weapons.

Marvel's Avengers is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
