The War for Wakanda expansion has been the biggest and flashiest item on the Marvel’s Avengers roadmap since the game unveiled its plans for 2021 last winter. After months of waiting and playing through other events that helped set the stage, the new story mission and brand new hero are finally available for everyone who owns the game.

The free price tag for the expansion (for players who already own Marvel’s Avengers) definitely makes it pretty appealing and should help draw in some lapsed players to try out the new hero, Black Panther, and experience a lot of the quality of life improvements that are arriving along with the rest of the new content.

As gamers start to tear through the Wakanda content, they may find themselves wondering just how much new narrative there is to explore. There’s a brand new villain and enemy faction and lots of plot to get through and, in total, the campaign’s story mode does add a decent amount of new content. It should take longer to work through than the previous Kate and Clint story DLCs, but it won’t be quite as long as the original campaign which clocked in at around 12-15 hours for the average gamer.

Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther: War for Wakanda Expansion

How Long is War for Wakanda?

The new story missions will take roughly eight hours for the average player to complete. Keep in mind though that it will take much longer than that to actually level Black Panther all the way up and get him in shape for endgame play. The eight hour estimate refers specifically to finishing the new narrative elements that are added in the War for Wakanda expansion.

A big part of the appeal for Marvel’s Avengers is the plot, but obviously the game is always going to rely on a recurring weekly gameplay loop and rotating events to keep players engaged in between these sorts of major releases. Eight hours of new narrative content is going to be very exciting for a lot of players, but those who stick with the game after finishing that arc will need to be invested in the weekly rotation grind, as well.

Now that the War for Wakanda content has arrived, be sure to continue checking back for more updates, news, and additional strategy guides as players race through all of the new content and begin the endgame grind once again.

Marvel's Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
