Marvel’s Avengers fans have been waiting a long time for War for Wakanda, but thankfully, that wait is almost over. The expansion will be dropping on August 17th, giving players a few weeks to prepare before Marvel’s Avengers’ big DLC arrives. With many hoping that this expansion will be filled with strong content that revives the struggling games-as-a-service title, expectat11111ions are certainly high for Black Panther’s debut.

As is the case with other Marvel’s Avengers content, players will likely start off with a low-level Black Panther that needs to be ranked up. As such, there is no need to prepare certain builds or characters, especially with all players in a group now able to select Black Panther at the same time. With everyone able to control and level up T’Challa together, players should be able to jump right into the DLC as soon as it becomes available. However, while no preparation is required to play the content, there are still a few things that gamers can do to get themselves ready for Black panther's debut.

Collecting Credits And Units Before War for Wakanda

Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther: War for Wakanda Expansion

There have been plenty of awesome Black Panther costumes in the Marvel comics, and it can be assumed that several will be making their way to Marvel’s Avengers’ marketplace and cosmetic vendor. Given that MCU suits have become increasingly common in recent weeks, the costumes from Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther could also end up coming to the game. With so many possibilities for skins, those that enjoy dressing up their heroes in some special skins will likely want to prepare.

While a hero card for Black Panther will surely provide several skins to unlock, players would be wise to collect units and credits for Marvel's Avengers' purchasable cosmetics. Units are easy enough to come by, as players can get this currency by doing just about anything inside the co-op game. Completing missions and defeating bosses will allow them to be unlocked, with chests providing them as well. However, with only recolors purchasable with Units, players should prioritize Credit-collecting instead if they want some fancier attires.

While the main method for getting Units in Marvel’s Avengers is via microtransactions, there is one other way that gamers can collect the premium currency. Players can get some of Units from the hero cards, and with 8 playable heroes now in the game, players likely still have a few cards to complete. With this in mind, they should be doing as many daily and weekly challenges as possible until War for Wakanda releases. If they progress every hero’s card over the next few weeks, they could gather enough Units for a few marketplace Black Panther skins. As such, this would be a great way to prepare for the DLC.

Watching Black Panther Before War for Wakanda

Getting in the mood to explore the jungles and cities of Wakanda would also be smart, and it is hard to think of a better way to do that than watching Black Panther. While Christopher Judge’s T’Challa may be a bit more experienced than Chadwick Boseman’s was, seeing a younger version of the king could be a lot of fun. While the two stories are obviously not connected, players who want to do so can imagine continuing the movie’s story inside of the game. Aside from experiencing a great bit of Black Panther content before the expansion releases, the movie seems surprisingly similar to Marvel's Avengers.

Black Panther’s movie and game similarities are most easily noticeable with the character models. Shuri looks just like she does in the MCU, for example, with her hairstyle and outfit looking as if it was pulled straight from the big screen. The Dora Milaje also take on the same appearance that they had inside of the movies and shows, while Zuri also features. Even Klaw looks like he does in the MCU, with the same facial hair and khaki-based outfit worn by the antagonist. On top of the character models looking the same, Wakanda itself takes on a familiar look.

Zuri’s temple looks a lot like it did in the MCU, with the area covered in candles. The jungle boasts the traditional Panther statues, while the city’s design looks a lot like it does in the comics and films. Even the throne room looks like the one in the 2018 movie, meaning that players should have no problem making the jump from one to the other. With a viewing of Black Panther also giving player’s a chance to catch up on the country’s lore and T’Challa’s relationships, spending a few hours re-watching it could be a nice way to spend some time.

Reading Black Panther Comics Before War for Wakanda

Finally, Marvel’s Avengers players could read some Black Panther comics ahead of the DLC. One option would be to read books that focus on Klaw. Most stories about the Vibranium thief see him trying to steal the precious metal, with the villain invading the country on numerous occasions in the source material. With the DLC seemingly keeping this trope intact, players can get more info on Klaw and Wakanda’s most valuable resource by reading up on the character.

Another option would be to just focus on reading some excellent Black Panther comics. The Christopher Priest run was highly influential on future storylines and the MCU adaptation, so enjoying the writer’s content could be a terrific way to kill some time. The more recent run from Ta-Nehisi Coates has also been top notch, with the renowned author earning some well-deserved praise for his modern take on Wakanda and T’Challa.

Beyond comic reading, movie watching, and currency gathering, simply playing the game again would be a good way to prepare. With Marvel’s Avengers’ latest update adding some hugely requested features, there is some fresh content to enjoy. For those that have not played the game in a while, the two Hawkeye Operations and Cosmic Cube Villain Sector could be waiting as well. With all the updates being free, and Black Panther’s expansion following suit, getting back into the game before War for Wakanda releases seems like a good move.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
