A changing of the guard is nothing new when it comes to superheroes, with new names rising to take up the mantles of well-known heroes like Batman and Captain America. Thor is no different, with a unique mix of characters from Beta Ray Bill to Thor's friend Volstagg being worthy enough to wield the hammer Mjolnir. However, Jane Foster is the one given the spotlight in Marvel's Avengers latest update as The Mighty Thor joins the team, along with some fresh fixes and changes to the game itself.

Marvel's Avengers follows Kamala Khan in the aftermath of a terrorist attack on A-Day, which was meant to celebrate the titular team, and forced them to disband. Khan is forced to seek out Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Captain America after discovering the attack gave her powers and has put her in the crosshairs of Advanced Idea Mechanics, better known as AIM. Subsequent updates would see popular heroes Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, Black Panther, and Spider-Man join the team to halt AIM's machinations.

As mentioned above, The Mighty Thor is the newest member of the team with the release of Patch v2.5, just in time for Jane Foster's Marvel Cinematic Universe return in Thor: Love and Thunder. She will get her own unique mission chain and a new hero challenge card to complete, as previous characters received. A new suite of cosmetics is also available to customize The Mighty Thor to players' liking.

Patch v2.5 brings plenty of fixes, as well, most of which are focused on the game's campaign and endgame activities. These include fixes to NPC and enemy spawn points, objective-related bugs, and perhaps most notably, fixing a bug that granted extra Faction Reputation that pushed players past the Level 50 cap and resetting any players who had gone over back to the cap.

Along with piggybacking off the latest MCU release, the addition of The Mighty Thor opens the door for some potential narrative arcs Crystal Dynamics could explore in the future. Jane Foster's time as Thor in the comics is one embodied by self-sacrifice because, despite having the power of a god, she is battling cancer when deemed worthy by Mjolnir and the use of her powers only worsens her illness. This could be something the developer could explore in a future narrative expansion, one which could even see her join her comic book counterpart as the new Valkyrie.

Marvel's Avengers is currently available on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
